Oh Bulgarians were everywhere, before Moldova even existed as a principality. Thing is with nomads you can never know where they'll end up 1300 years later, much like the Roma people ;-0

As far as I could gather, turns out those guys had tradition of statehood, written laws, continents-spanning diplomatic and trade networks, walled cities, settled urban lifestyle and established institutions long before they even arrived in Moldova. I wouldn't call that "nomadic life" but hey, granted, long-taught mainstream historical revisionism stemming from ideological motivations could have such an impact on people's historical perceptions :)
