MENLO PARK, CALIFORNIA-On Saturday, in the presence of area dignitaries, the local police department opened up a new substation in the neighborhood of Belle Haven, just a short block down the street from Facebook’s massive corporate headquarters. This is no ordinary police station. Its renovation, rent, and one officer’s salary have been substantially paid for by Facebook, to the tune of $600,000 over the next two years.

Yikes! I don't how nice a spin on it anyone puts, this is creepy. The cops should not be beholden to major corporations. That way lies Robocop territory. By that I mean good, 80s Robocop. If Facebook wants to help a city that's great. But there are less fishy ways to spend their money than this. I'd say there should be a law, but asking politicians to make it harder for people to buy influence with money is like asking the sun not to shine.

police, corporations, corruption
