Liberals who have been oohing and aahing over the new vicar of Caesar Jesus, the Ignatian Pontifex Maximus named after the monk of Assisi, now have reason to check their emotional optimism at the cathedral vestibule. Eh I doubt many of us are claiming he is perfect. He also opposes the ordination of women. He is however a giant step up from the previous few occupants.

Oh no it should be an either-or dichotomy. Otherwise it's not as exciting.

Do you mean like either he is an Ignatian or he is fan of Francis but he cannot possibly be both?

So - gays have gone from evil wrongdoers to just plain wrongdoers, in the eyes of the Church?

I understand that technically, that qualifies as progress - I just don't think the pace is fast enough to please anyone.

I see what Big Frank is trying to do though - compromise, meet in the middle - which works great with many disagreements, but this just isn't one of them. I don't think there's a gray area in this discussion.

Giving gays a few extra rights and a few extra compliments but keeping them unequal is only going to piss off gays and anti-gays.

He doesn't have to worry about re-election, but if he cares about his legacy at all - he better get out of the in-between or everyone will remember him as weak.

I did not get the impression that same sex couples who seek to raise adopted children were considered wrong doers by Scicluna. It seems that the notion that allowing them to satisfy that desire would be wrong. The remarks on conservative blog sites advocating outright hatred of homosexuals seeking normalcy, on the other hand, shows the true sentiments behind the official position.

As for gray areas, the whole proposal to recognize same sex civil unions was once the middle position until it came to be associated with segregation. (The Brits might argue that there is no grey area, except in the tea business.)
