With the irony that the Soviets were planning the same thing in reverse with the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact and wound up with a country larger in 1945 than it had been in 1939, control of half of Europe, and superpower status out of the Stalinist era.

The hilarious bit was that Uncle Joe planned to have *democracy and fascism* fight *themselves* to exhaustion and then Communism would would pick up the pieces. Unfortunately he rather overestimated how militarily strong the UK and France were.....
