The Harry Potter Re-read Challenge

Jan 17, 2011 22:49

I got this idea from my lovely friend Christine who has been taking advantage of her extra time to read and watch each of the Harry Potter books and films. That made me think about how we're faced with another summer of 2007 this year, the release of the last Harry Potter film. I want to do something to commemorate.

If you're reading this, you're probably like me, and Harry Potter was your entire childhood and a siginificant part of her life. However, it's been years since I've read the entire series, and the details I used to know by heart and beginning to get lost between the midnight showing and wizard rock songs, not to mention my now far more consuming real life.

So, I propose a challenge in order to help you relive your childhood, the magic of Harry, and what it meant to you. There are three options:

01. Re-read each of the 7 Harry Potter books before the release of Deathly Hallows part II on July 15th, 2011.
02. Re-read each of the 7 Harry Potter books and watch each of the 7 Harry Potter movies before the release of Deathly Hallows part II on July 15th, 2011.
03. Re-read each of the 7 Harry Potter books and supplemental books and watch each of the 7 Harry Potter movies before the release of Deathly Hallows part II on July 15th, 2011.

I made up a schedule (below the cut) to help keep you on track. Obviously, I don't expect you to read according to the schedule, it's just to give you an idea of where you should be and when the discussion posts will open. The schedule is based on page counts and has you reading at the rate of approx 25 pages a day. It's coded as follows:
Challenge 01: follow the regular text
Challenge 02: follow the regular and bold text
Challenge 03: follow the regular, bold, and italic text

Every day a new read begins, I will open a discussion post. You can leave comments as you go or when you're done, or you can post entries in your own journals.

I am keeping all these posts public and comment accessible, so feel free to invite all your friends!

I am really excited about this, and I hope people will actually do it it with me!

Let's return to Harry's world! The Hogwarts Express is waiting!
