another car bites the dust
Totaled my car on the way to work this morning.
Road conditions weren't even that bad, and I was doing less than the speed limit, but must've hit a slick spot. Bounced off a berm on my side of the road, slide across the other lane and off the road down a slight drop. Ran over a tree-stump and hit some bushes.
Downside: I'm now in the market for yet another car.
Upsides: I'm physically okay -- sore, but nothing broken. No airbag deployment, no head-hits-windshield. There were no other cars involved (three minutes later, I'd have hit the first in a string of 4 cars coming in the other direction). And at least now I don't need to pay to have that possibly-faulty transmission fixed....
Last night I loaded all of the bags of books I meant to donate to the November book drive, with the intension that sometime in the next few days I'd bring them to my local independent bookstore and turn them in. I joked on Facebook that the extra weight in the back of this station wagon would help me if the weather was bad today. I have no idea if they helped or hindered, but I do know I need to get them out of the car when I turn the title over to the wrecker tomorrow.
Still, I'm alive and no-one else was hurt or even involved. I take comfort in that much at least.
