I think that what I miss most about being a child is the ability to see the world without having to filter it all first. Back when things were brighter and more colorful. When we would let ourselves stand in awe of something, jaw agape, and not feel ashamed for doing it. When we were not afraid to answer questions without guile for fear of saying the wrong thing. When we would, at least in our minds, chase after the desires of our hearts without heed for how irresponsible or unlikely or silly it was. Before hope and imagination were tempered by things like bills and responsibility and an imposed sense of realism. How you could proudly tack a fingerpainting on the kitchen refrigerator because you didn't care what people would think of it.

Restraint and moderation certanily have their place in adult lives but I fear that sometimes the imposition of these adult attributes has overly dulled the senses. Sometimes I try to get back in touch with that carefree and hopeful child that still resides inside, to throw away the heavy burdens of adulthood, of caring what people think, and live life for its own sake and enjoy the colors and the tastes and the sounds.

Who knows?
