House Hunting Results
Yea! We FINALLY got to look at the inside. The main part of the house was VERY nice. But there were frustrations, mostly in our expectations from our looking at the outside, and from the advertising.
The flyer says that it is a 5 bed, 2 bath house with one bed and bath being the in-law. In reality it is a 3 bed, 2 bath house with a not well built STUDIO in the basement. The thing is the crazy lady took the second largest bedroom and turned it into a HUGE bathroom... which is all well and good, but she spent a lot of money on the bathroom, so she isn't willing to negotiate on the price-- and did a lot of stuff that prospective buyers probably aren't interested in. The kicker being that she spent who knows how much money to have her claw foot bathtub plastered for a mold to make a look alike claw foot tub for upstairs. Who cares if they look exactly alike?
They added a little studio apartment in the basement for her son. The walls are unfinished, and all of the elements in the apartment are obvious cast aways from somewhere else.
We didn't get to see the garage because "my ex has the key"... but evidently it's just a straight garage with no upper floor-- although it definitely has the space for it.
When it comes down to it- it is a nice house... If we were looking for a straight single family home with "Old World Charm" we might actually get it... but since we are looking for something where we can actually rent out the second part... and because we were misled by the information, we have decided not to get this house.
If only it weren't so cute...
The second house that we have tried to look at SEVERAL times, was once again unlooked at on the inside. This time the tenants in the downstairs were home, but they did not answer the door and had 2 loud barking dogs at the door, and the key didn't work for the upstairs unit. We're tired of not being able to see the place. The owner's loss.
So, we have pretty much made our decision, after looking at somewhere around 15 houses. We had narrowed our decision down to 6 possibilities... 2 of which have since sold, the 2 above, 1 other that we decided to cut off the list. Our final choice will be the one we buy unless some other dream house comes up in the next week while we get all of our ducks in order.

The upstairs has a separate entrance on the side of the house. It is a one bedroom apartment. The house is in very good condition. There is a back yard, and a 1 car garage off the alley.
