I just got home from work a few minutes ago. When I drove up, I noticed a line of lights to the left of our house, on what looked to be our fence. Apparently the neighbors to the left of us took the liberty of lighting us, probably as part of their light decorations. We haven't met these people yet, and they have a home for sale. Personally, if I were trying to sell my house, I wouldn't be putting up stupid christmas lights (there are sections of the fence that are out). Now we know that our house wasn't lived in for the last two or so years - and those neighbors have been there at least that long, if not longer- so it's entirely possible they just did it without asking so long ago and assumed to keep the trend. I see this as a bad sign because we have very obviously been living in our home for about a month now, and have yet to meet them. This would have been the perfect opportunity for dialogue - hey how's it going, is that ok? No, oh bummer.
That's right, I'm turning them off. They shine a relatively bright light right into our bedroom window, and my curtains aren't dark enough to block them out. As it is we (mostly Travis) tend to get irritated at any light pollution by chargers, cell phones, powerstrips. I am *not* going to be kept awake by someone's lights on my own property.
GET OFF MY LAWN.
I plan to disconnect them after Travis gets home, and then go over & knock on the door tomorrow morning, and very pleasantly & politely apologize for turning off their lights, but they were keeping us awake.
(We've been very polite and pleasant with all the neighbors we've met so far - most of them have come over while we've been moving, and two of them came by while Travis was on the roof this past weekend. A lady named Christie watched as he dropped handfuls of gutter leaves into my the bucket I was holding. It was a messy day.)
How would you deal with this?
