CPAP titration

That vacation ended up being really interesting. Sunday night mom held Ethan on her lap, he came down with the flu shortly thereafter, and Monday morning mom went to a clinic and waited there 3.5 hours with a fever of 101.6 and bronchitis. When she finally got back, she could hardly move. She went to bed and stayed there for two days.

We had to go back to Utah on Wednesday because I had to go to the sleep lab that night. Mom was still so weak that she had to go down the stairs in a sitting position. I drove, despite my expired licence and my sleep-deprived state. I was the least messed-up of the two. I felt like taking a nap half the time, but I never came close to dropping off.

Mom stayed at my house while I went to the sleep lab. That was no fun. They wired me up as usual and then put the CPAP mask on me. I was afraid that I would feel a constant wind in my throat, but I felt the wind only when I tried to talk. Sometimes, the seal between the mask and my face would open a bit, and it would make an obnoxious hiss and cold air sensation.

I couldn't fall asleep, but it wasn't the mask. All those nights using the Ambien at Marci's plus the continued worry about HPfGU kept me awake. But if I didn't manage to sleep, the test would be useless. So I sat up around 2:30 am and asked the attendant to fetch my Ambien. I fell asleep about 3:00 am. The next morning, I asked the attendant if the CPAP had made any difference. She said she didn't notice any apnea episodes, but she was watching other people, too.
