Author Notes: This story is going to be revealed, for at least the beginning, four to six parts per day. When I reach chapter divisions, I will post them as whole chapters. This is mostly because this was how the story was written and I find it to be more interesting that way.

The others trickle in over the next hour, slowly but surely. Cha is the first to show up and it's heartbreaking to see such a happy, carefree spirit look so small and shattered. He takes one long look at Gackt and then turns to You and wraps him in the tightest embrace. You's emotions openly bleed then as he breaks down, finding the solace that Hyde knows he needs. He feels ashamed for watching it, as if it's some spectacle, but Cha catches his eyes and mouths, I'm sorry.
It feels like glass is cutting the inside of Hyde's chest and then he really has to look away, biting his lip so hard, he tastes the horribly familiar tang of blood on his lips. He tries to hide away in a corner, ignore how the members of Gackt's beloved family fumble and choke as they try to say goodbye. What he does pay attention to is Gackt's shallow breathing, his beating heart, signalling life but he's so drained, so tired, he's not sure if he can even pick up any changes in the man.
Or if there has been any at all.
He glances at the clock and his heart lodges straight in his throat. Not even half an hour until they pull the plug. He feels You's eyes linger on the clock as well, senses his hope dimming until it will soon fade into nothing. His monster is already stirring again, already whispering curses for You's decision to give in but Hyde refuses to, not until the very last second. But if that's not enough...a muffled sob escapes his lips and he just closes his eyes and curls in on himself as he tries to shield himself from the word, all while focusing on that pulse. The beat is there, is steady, is unchanging -
Except then he hears a spike, small but there, and he might not even think so much of it until the entire room, Gackt's family, seems to stop moving and someone gasps.
Hyde stops, his heart seeming to leap to his throat as he listens to that gasp become ragged breathing. He closes his eyes, breathing a sigh of relief but there's still a part of him that's terrified that Gackt's going to crash again, just the tiniest flicker of indecision that gets completely crushed when he hears Gackt's voice, tiny and crushed but there and real...
"Why is...?" he begins softly, the words nothing but a soft rasp and then someone moves and Hyde can see him, can see his lover alive and on the mend for the first time in what seems like forever.
"Thank god." You is the first one to speak, and he all but collapses against Chacha as tears of relief pour down his face, his grief replaced by something else entirely. "I'm so glad..." Hyde watches the realisation cross Gackt's face as he understands why everyone is here, and Hyde knows that Gackt isn't stupid and will eventually come to realise that it wasn't something natural that pulled him back from the brink, but instead a beast that dragged him to life again. But he isn't about to think about that, not now, not until he has to, because Gackt's alive and nothing else matters.
He watches in amazed silence as Gackt slowly takes in the room, listens to the sound of his lover's strengthening heartbeat, contents himself in the fact that something has worked -
And then Gackt sees him.
