Small update for tonight. Sort of too tired to write for too long, but I want to try and stick to some sort of regular update (lawl right, like I ever did that :P). But a couple of things to touch base on, and expand on later. If possible, and I really will try to :P.
So, last night (Saturday night) was my first shift at my new and second job place. Working as a dishwasher right now, going to pick up some cleaning shifts, and in about a month I'll start training as a cook. Anyway, first night. Labor Day weekend, and where it should be 3 of us dishwashers, it was just myself and one other. And he said it was the busiest night he's ever had. And I was training. Oh, and did I mention all this is done by hand? Anyway, it was horrific, but I powered through without too much trouble. Just had a dehydration headache afterward and so went and bought a couple of Gatorade G2: Fruit Punches and drank an entire one on the drive home. Thirst!
Today we celebrated my dad's birthday. Turned 49 this year. Amber (sister) came up to visit which was really nice because I know for a while there she wasn't too close with Dad. But since she got back from Germany, she's been a lot better on that front. We did steaks on the grill, and they were amazing steaks. Baked potatoes, corn, green beans, rolls, and cheddar broccoli rice were served with. Just writing that made my mouth water and my tummy go hungry again. :P.
After that Amber and I went out for a drink at the bar. Was fun, I've only gone out with Amber maybe one other time, so I bought her a couple drinks and had fun for a bit listening to music. Didn't get a buzz, but that wasn't the point of the evening. Just having a nice time with my sister and friends and fun. That's what I like. Can't wait for a year and a half when Max can go out. Sucks he can't now when he was so used to it over in Germany, but thems the rules. Sad face :(
Touched on that I was running a 4e D&D game towards the end of next month, and that my brother and Nick are playing. Nick's going to play a Drow Swordmage, which in 4e is an Arcane Defender type. Which means it is an Arcane power type, and Defenders are one of 4 "types" of classes, usually more geared to tanking. It looks brutal and I want to play one myself sometime. The drow thing was his idea and at first it through me a curveball for what I wanted to run campaign wise, but I've already figured out how to fit him in, and I don't think he realizes just how badly the elves and eladrin are going to fuck with him for the drow thing.
Max on the other hand is a first timer really to roleplaying games. Pen and paper style, that is. I mean, he's played in a few sessions back in the day, for a time here and there. But he's never started in a campaign to play through. So a first for him, and he'll be playing a Changeling (Doppleganger) Rogue. Rogues, of course, are Martial Strikers. Martial powers are like training with weapons and such. :P. Like martial prowess. And Strikers are there mostly to hurt things. A lot. He's got some interesting ideas for background, and for ways to use his abilities to help the group. Changelings have a power that let them alter their shape to anything/anyone else. And be believable at it. So he wants to sneak into enemy camps as one of the enemy, and lead out folks because he "heard something over there!" I can't wait because it's awesome and also I have some great ideas for things to happen in game dealing with him. Hehehe.
Other than planning for that game, reading, and writing! I've been trying out a new card game. Some of you may know I play(ed?) Magic: The Gathering for some time now. Even competitively for a brief stint with tournaments and PTQs. Well, got a little burnt on it, so taking a break from it I've started a different kind and oh man I love it. It's called Legend of the Five Rings, or L5R for short. It's story driven, where the big tournament games have impacts on how the story progresses. There are 9 clans that you choose from. Crane, Lion, Mantis, Scorpion, Spider, Dragon, Unicorn, Crab, Phoenix. I play Unicorn. Which may sound a little gay, and the fact that their clan color is purple makes it even more, but I have a HUGE thing for Mongols/Huns and cavalry, and that's exactly what they're based off. They have few horse archers, which makes me sad, but they're the Children of the Winds. I love that. History for them is that they were once the Ki-rin clan (favorite Oriental Myth creature, by the way), and that they traveled off for a loooooooong time, and when they came back they were the Unicorn clan and traditions changed. I play Battle Maidens, fierce warrior ladies :P. I lurv my Purple Ponies.
Anyway, that's enough for tonight. Have a great Labor Day, everyone!
