Time is so much sand poured into a broken glass. Their actions spread their own private sands of time into the wind, to touch other bodies, to affect them for good or ill.
Crawford wonders which of his actions-or inactions-could have caused this. How far back this grain of sand was released. How far it has traveled.
Schuldig has been meeting Fujimiya Aya for just over two months now. The telepath doesn’t bring it up when he comes home after disappearing for nights on end, but neither does he pretend Crawford doesn’t already know about the relationship he has with their enemy. Crawford wonders still if this relationship will prove good or bad for his team. Good or bad for Schuldig, whom he respects despite all the comments he makes to the contrary. But he hasn’t interfered, and he won’t interfere, unless he sees something that makes it necessary.
Crawford is not heartless, he is pragmatic. And if he were any more realistic, he would kill Fujimiya now, before Schuldig got too attached. This thing between them could only end in pain.
