Things that have been entertaining and/or amusing lately:
  • Michelle Branch apparently does a cover of "Heart-Shaped Box." Yes, the Nirvana song. Yes, she does it well. Incongruous!
  • Jay. In specific, essentially splitting a boat of sushi (and then some) with him (a few others helped a bit, but not much). Copious! East coast, you are lucky to have him back. Use him well.
  • The second annual Blitz Smackdown. The Blitz is an annual theatre event whose essential premise is "24 hours, page to stage." The Smackdown version (obviously, if you've been paying attention) started last year; it's a competition among the playwrights, essentially. This year's went like this: on Friday night, the coordinators took song titles out of a book of all the songs that topped out at number two on the charts, and playwrights chose one out of a hat, and that became the title of their play; out of a different hat they each chose three "challenge lines," which were all from last year's Blitz Smackdown, and they had to use at least two of these lines in their play. The coordinators then picked one title and one challenge line out of the hats, and these were applied to the final Smackdown round, for which each playwright must write a one-page play with the selected title and challenge line; these are kept in a "hermetically sealed" envelope until the appropriate time. All-day Saturday, the playwrights introduced their director and actors to their play, everyone got ready to perform, and on Saturday night, the plays went on. The audience votes by volume of applause for two plays out of the six, and the playwrights of those plays get their one-page plays out of the envelope. They each choose a director and then in concert with that director choose a cast, and rehearse for fifteen minutes, after which the final performances and final voting happen. Hilarity!
  • Claire. She's funny, too. And pretty. And... entertaining. *ahem*. No, Twisp doesn't get a comment here.
