Oh. My. Gods. VAST is amazing live. Even in a small venue with limited light show capacity, they did some really nice synaesthetic shit (Visual Audio Sensory Theater is their name, after all), and they have great stage presence. One of the fundamental building blocks of a good concert, as judged by me, is that not only are the performers having fun, but you can tell they're having fun. They were. I'm sad that they didn't have shirts in XXL, or I totally would have picked one up.
White Light Riot, the quasi-opener (there was a local act that actually opened the show) really surprised me, in the best possible way. Rateyourmusic.com calls their music Indie Rock, but that's bull. They have more energy, more major-key songs, and especially better vocals than any other "indie" group I've ever heard. I liken them to a more cheerful Jimmy Eat World. I approve.
