I agree so much with so much of what is posted here. Ugh, I haven't even watched this week's ep because I keep seeing so much negativity. To be completely honest, I actually don't feel compelled to at all. I really just am done with everything.
Personally, I don't ship Steve/Cath, but I love their interaction. She adds another dimension to Steve as a character, while also growing into her own character. A year ago, I'd have been one of those Cath haters, but after giving it some thought, I figured out that my hate of her was stemmed from her lack of an established character (i.e. seeming like someone Steve sleeps with and asks for favors). As S3 went on, Cath was in a number of episodes as a favor girl, but it felt different as they were developing her (slowly, but yeah). I can now say I love Cath, though I still don't ship her with Steve. To me, they seem so much like close friends in every aspect, but seeing all of this meaningless hate about her is so irritating.
As for why people continue to stay in fandom, I ask myself the very same question. I unfollowed someone on Tumblr because of how negative she was about the show. Much of what she ranted about the show was so weird, like she didn't even *want* to like it and was searching for an excuse to hate it. Maybe since a few BNFs have stated their distaste about the show, it's become "cool" to hate on it? I don't know, honestly; it's just a theory.
All of what you've said here is *EXACTLY* why I've been hiatusing from Tumblr. I see so much negative posting and so many people just complain about *everything*. I just want to be happy with my circle, but whenever a part of my circle makes themself unhappy, it makes me feel worse and worse, and lmao I see this happening too much to the point where I'm through with some parts of the fandom.
