Another month passed, another year gone

Time flies by so quickly these days, I sort of forget to stop and take the time to reflect.

So about another month as passed since I last wrote. This is sort of becoming insane that I blog so rarely now. I remember when I would literally write something everyday. What was so interesting 5 years ago that I thought needed to be recorded meticulously for the future? I guess everything was more exciting then...

Although life is still relatively chill compared to a few weeks ago, it's still been pretty exciting. We've been doing leukemia slides at work and I can actually diagnose (at least preliminarily) the patient with a leukemia based on a blood slide, that I can make. I really am starting to feel useful. A couple days ago I ran the entire front table by myself, running the machine, releasing the results and then make and staining the slides. That was really empowering knowing that they would trust me to do so and that I can in fact, do this job I'm supposed to be doing in less than a year. The future is starting to look not so daunting so life is good for the most part.

Early this month, (Dec 7!!) I took my last test for the semester and am officially freeeeee from school. Although I'm free from having to study for school, there's plenty of studying that need to be done so that I am ready for work. I have transfusion next, wherein I have absolutely no experience or knowledge whatsoever, so this will be a quite difficult rotation for me. I'm just hoping that I survive transfusion services, its the only place where you have to run a test where the result could kill someone if you do it incorrectly... so there is a significant amount of pressure.

Since I have Fridays off now, I decided to pick up working at Waiter again cause they asked me and at the time I couldn't think of a good reason to turn it down. I can sort of think of a few now... but oh well. Mainly because I'm the project manager for this class project we're doing. We're running a non diagnostic general health screen. (Talk about a mouthful.) I have some people who are great, some people who don't respond and some people that are just rude. It's difficult working with a bunch of people who all think they are busier than you are. And while for a lot of people that may be true, it doesn't give you the right to skirk your responsibilities and not do your fair share of the work.

The project itself is starting to look like a monster undertaking. We have a application to fill out that looks like it's going to be 30 pages and we have to notify a bunch of authorities and we're doing it at a campus that none of us really know that well. It's sure shaping up to be quite a challenge because none of us really know what they're doing.

On another note, my trainers in hemo are pretty awesome. I really like the environment of hematology and I sort of want to work there even though I never thought I would want to. But of course, this is my first rotation and maybe there'll be an even better department. But for now, my trainers are all really ... jokey and everyone gets along and we all make fun of each other. Here's to hoping I do well on my evaluations.
