Cooked up a bunch of pears and made puree. I put as much into my crock pot as would fit, and the rest is in the fridge to be added to the crock pot later tomorrow when there's room enough to add the rest. Heh. I sorted out the rest of the pears that are in good enough shape to cut into halves and quarters to stuff into quarts with a simple syrup and can like that. Last year, I tossed in a couple of cloves per jar. I'm thinking about adding a couple of allspice berries in the simple syrup while I'm making it, and the cloves in the jars again. The little hint of spices in the pears is really nice, and not at all overpowering.
In other news, one of the apartments in the building next door must be rented by college students. Their living room (I thought it was a bedroom, but there are WAY too many different people in that room in the evenings) is just opposite my kitchen window, and when I've got the window open, I hear them often. Tonight they're *really* loud. A party of some kind, since there are at least 5 guys and a couple of girls. If they've got music on, it's turned down low. Just they're drinking wine and beer and talking loud. I closed the window, hoping that would take care of it, but then the guys moved to their balcony and they've been out there for the last couple of hours laughing loudly and talking non-stop. Some of them left around 10:30 since someone sat out in their running truck (the rumble of the engine was setting my teeth on edge) and finally started honking the horn to make someone leave faster.
Usually, this is a very quiet street. Quite a few families with small children. People don't stay outside making this kind of noise this late at night.
Ah well. My windows are closed, and I'm not trying to sleep. It's just annoying that I keep trying to concentrate on other things, only to be constantly interrupted with the unaccustomed loudness. And with that, now I *am* going to try to go to sleep.
