Dear Brothers and Sisters:
We have entered a grave situation. You who receive this message know our identities. You know that we the Founders have been close friends for a number of years, since before we brought the first species of Earth-sourced life to Anyana. We have been through thick and thin, though not without our disagreements. Still, up to this point our close friendships have held strong, without wavering. But no more.
Earlier this week, the time, date, and place irrelevant, certain irrevocable and irreparable events took place which resulted in the splitting of our ranks. Matthew has chosen to begin his own path. You once knew him, but not as well as we. Still, somehow he managed to conceal his involvement in numerous suspicious organizations across the planet. No hard evidence has been found linking him to them, but there are too many coincidences and discrepancies to be overlooked. We confronted him about these suspicious activities but he refused to answer- though he gave numerous denials of our accusations, nothing he said gave us proof that he was innocent. Because of our questioning and doubt, he abruptly vacated HQ and disappeared with many sensitive top-secret files in his possession. We know this because security cameras captured him making his escape with an armload of items which never should have been allowed to leave the office, much less the building. But because of his rank, he was not questioned as to his intentions. We can only assume these files gave proof that we were right to question his character and he did not wish us to have them in our possession. We also have reason to believe that some of our confidential files as well were removed (whether mistakenly or on purpose we do not know) from secure filing vaults in his successful effort to escape quickly and without capture.
We regret to inform you that we must now undertake a mission to find him and secure him before he threatens the foundations of how our government is run. He knows many things which we cannot be allowed to reach the public ear. If our enemies got ahold of this information it may destroy us. I am afraid that if our allegations of Matthew’s suspicious activities are true, then he may not hesitate to rally our enemies against us with the assurance of victory. If he can guarantee their victory against us, he guarantees his own survival.
Our intent is not to harm him or make war against him. It is now only a matter of protection and keeping our government- as well as ourselves- secure. He must be brought in, and the files which he had in his possession recovered. Until we have hard proof of his guilt we do not wish to condemn him, but neither do we have proof of his innocence. All caution must be taken in this operation.
You understand that the severity of this disaster and the potential harm it could cause warrants complete silence to everyone not connected to the Inner Circle. At all costs this information must be kept from the press. If necessary, permanent removal of those who speak of this will be effected. This is a direct order - no leaking of information will be tolerated, and will be punished by death. We would advise you to hold your tongues.
Further information will be sent on a need-to-know-basis. Instructions for capture and retrieval of the renegade Matthew are attached. For security reasons he shall henceforth be known as 86-0501. To those who knew him well, we extend our sympathy and share in your sorrows.
