Today (September 29th 2007) the new Bruce Springsteen and E-streetband album Magic was released in Holland. About three weeks ago it was leaked on the internet. The quality of the MP3's was astonishing. You could almost think that it was leaked on purpose to create a buzz. Personally I was not very happy with the way the album turned out, production sounded dated, muffled and not inspired. Springsteen sings without conviction. The E-streetband sounded like a freight train on the loose. And worst of it all, the songs were in my ears mediocre at best. Half of it was good, the other half we could have done without. I felt a little disappointment in Bruce Springsteen, but I still bought a ticket to a show.
Now I bought the real product and what a difference! The sound is much clearer, Springsteen sings like he means it and the band plays very well. I still think some of the songs are not his best (Radio Nowhere, Your own worst enemy, Girls in their summerclothes), but as a whole the album sounds convincing and relevant. That is a big win compared to where I was three weeks ago. I might actually going to be having fun in Cologne!
Just to think that still a MP3 is not up to the same standard as the original CD. The CD is not dead (yet)!
