Title: Cream and Sugar
Author: tafidadarling
Rating: FRAO
Fandom: Criminal Minds. It belongs to CBS, not the girl behind the keyboard. Oh, and I threw in a Guide reference because I'm that nerdy.
Series: Third chapter in Chaos Theory. It's an AU.
Pairing(s): Morgan/Garcia, Rossi/Prentiss, Hotch/Reid (Though they don't make an appearance in this chapter.)
Summary: Emily works in a coffee shop to put herself through school.
Notes: Another lame title. Mon petit chou is a term of endearment in French. Literally translated it means "my little cabbage". This is my first time writing Rossi/Prentiss, so be kind please. :P

"Hello Penelope," Emily said as the regular customer approached the counter. "It's a slow day, so I've got you're order all ready."

"Emily the strange and great," Penelope said smiling. "You are a doll. Thank you." She paid Emily and sat down with her tea at a table. "How are things going for my favourite professional student?"

"I'm not a professional student," Emily said laughing. "I just quit my job and went back to school. There's a difference."

"I'm sorry mon petit chou. So, when are we going to see you out of this coffee shop and teaching?"

"I graduate after this semester," Emily said practically beaming.

"Girl, get over here and give me a high five," Penelope said. "I love good news. I have some of my own as well."

"What's that?"

"I have a date. Sort of."

"That is great Pen. When is it?"

"Actually, I'm meeting him here in, uh, five more minutes," Penelope said checking her watch for the umpteenth time. "I'm so nervous."

"Don't worry. You'll be fine." Emily went to help a customer. Penelope sat back and sipped her tea. She thought it wasn't so bad. If he stood her up, at least they didn't know each other. It wouldn't be too awkward.

Just then, the bell on the door rang and Derek walked in. He looked around. Penelope was the only person sitting in the shop, but he still felt weird walking over.

"Penelope?" he asked.

"I was right," Penelope said with a grin.

"What?"

"You are a hunk."

"Well, thank you." Derek smile and sat down across from Penelope. "I was really nervous coming here," he admitted. "I never done something like this before."

"You mean go on a blind date, well 'date' is debatable, set up by the two people in question? You're missing out. It's all the rage in Paris."

"Man, I must be more sheltered than my neighbor used to be," Derek said with a laugh.

"Well, you are both forgiven for trying new things."

As Emily clocked out, Penelope and her date were still talking. She was truly happy for her. In the past year or so Emily had worked in the coffee shop, she and Penelope had become friends. She was shocked at first when Penelope invited her to a Halloween party she was hosting, but they both knew this friendship could work outside the shop when Emily showed up dressed as Trillion and Penelope had said "Normality restored."

Emily went straight home since she had a class early next morning. It was a creative writing course she had taken as an elective, but it had quickly become her favourite class. That was mostly due to the professor. David Rossi was a local author whose novel Text 687337 for Murder made the best seller's list.

Emily wasn't much of a cheesy murder mystery fan, but when she found out he was teaching the class, she got the book out of the library.

"This isn't something I'd expect you to check out," Spencer had said. "Rossi's hardly Vonnegut."

"He's teaching creative writing this semester," Emily explained. "I just thought I should give it a try."

The weird thing was she did enjoy the book. Sure, it was cheesy, but Rossi had an interesting style. Plus, once the class had begun, she found he was intelligent and had a great sense of humour.

It was only two weeks into the semester and she was in love. With a professor. A much older professor. A professor with a public reputation along with his career that would be at stake.

And she had thought that only $20 in tips was her biggest problem.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

"Professor Rossi, I'd like to discuss my grade."

Emily had caught him just as he was leaving the classroom. It had been a few weeks since she admitted to herself she loved him. He had handed back the last assignment which she had received only a C on. She knew she could be distracted in class, but a C was too low.

"Sure thing. Let's go to my office."

Once the door was closed, Emily started ranting. "I'm sorry if I'm out of line but a C?! I know that my writing isn't best seller material, but this paper deserves more than that. I spent alot of time on this, and I thought my personifications were fairly witty."

"I think we can make a deal," Dave said. "I'll change your grade if you stop leering at me in class."

Emily slumped into the chair. "Oh. Oh my God. I am so embarrassed."

"Don't be. It's not that I'm not flattered. You're an attractive woman, but I don't date students."

"I'm so sorry Professor Rossi. I..."

"Fuck, sure, but I'm not looking for a relationship."

Emily stared at Dave, speechless.

"Just stop looking like you've got a high school crush."

"Okay," she said. Next thing she knew, she was kissing Dave fiercely with teeth clashing and hands groping.

Dave reached up her skirt and slipped her underwear off. He gently scissored his fingers until Emily came with a quiet sigh. She undid his pants and grasped his cock. Dave was a little louder as he came. He bit down on Emily's collar bone to try to silence himself, and she knew there was going to be a mark there later.

Dave pulled his pants up and walked to his desk as if nothing had happened. "Don't think this is how I work," he said as he changed the grade on Emily's paper. "You did deserve an A. I just had to give you an excuse to come into my office."

"You could have just said you need to see me," she said.

"Not as fun." Dave handed the paper back to Emily. "And I did quit like your talking chairs. Made the story for me."

----------------------------------------------------------------------

"Have a nice day Mrs. Bimbly," Emily said handing the librarian her change.

Penelope and Derek were next in line. Penelope gasped. "Em, you didn't tell me you were seeing anyone."

"Damn, I thought I covered that up well," Emily said as she made their order.

"Who is it? Tell me about him," Penelope demanded.

"I can't. I have a line out the door. Maybe next time."

"She won't stop until you spill," Derek said. "You'd be better off telling her sooner." He kissed her on the cheek.

"I'm evil, aren't I?" Penelope picked up her tea and waved it at Emily. "I will find out."

'I'm screwed,' Emily thought. Penelope would find out somehow. Probably hack the college's security cameras and see Emily going to Dave's office. She at least tried to act casual when she left. This was going to be a long semester.
