Notes: This story started because of one of my responses for the Music Meme. This was another way of me avoiding the next chapter of Profile of the Dead. :D

The sun was shining right in Spencer's eyes despite his attempt to block it out with the visor. Wy had he packed his sunglasses at the bottom of his suitcase that was currently occupying the trunk?
His mother, Diane, seemed unfazed as she drove like a madwoman down the highway. She had gotten the idea in her head of sending Spencer to summer camp around March. She complained that he was sixteen and hardly had any friends. Summer camp was supposed to bring him "out of his shell".
Spencer admitted that he didn't have many friends, but he was content. It was hard to find kids his age who were accepting and when you're the awkward, gay, smart kid, you get made fun of alot. He pointed this out to his mother when she said "Just be yourself."Now he was going to spend three months with people he didn't know and would more than likely never see again. He could be whoever he wanted to be.
They pulled up in front of the large sign announcing they had reached Camp Susquehana. There were at least 20 other cars as parents dragged their children toward the main office to sign in.
"Do I really have to?" Spencer asked one more time.
"If you weren't so close minded, you could have some fun Spencer," Diane replied. "Give it at least a week before you call home begging me to come get you."
"Okay, one week. I'm not saying I'll like it though."
"I wouldn't expect any less. Love you dear. You write me, okay?"
"There won't be a need."
"Don't forget to get your friends' numbers," Diane said as she hopped back in the car. Sure she was going to enjoy some alone time but she was really doing it for her son's own good. She could only hope that he would stop being such a stick in the mud.

"Spencer Reid?" asked a man with dark hair.
"Yeah?"
"Hi son. I'm Aaron Hotchner. Call me Hotch. I'm in charge of the boy's cabins. If you would grab your things and follow me. You're in Cabin C with Derek. He'll be your counselor for the summer."
Spencer tried to keep up with Hotch as he lugged his suitcase behind him. The cabin was relatively small and the idea of sharing the space with other boys made his stomach turn. What if they were loud? Or worse. What if they were messy?
"How many, uh, roommates do I have?"
Hotch chuckle. "It's just you and Derek. The rest of your age group wanted to stay in B with their friends from last year who are still in the 12-15 group."
Spencer could almost swear there was now a heavenly glow around the cabin. He had the whole place to himself. Well, minus the councelor, but he'd probably be so busy he'd never be around.
Hotch held the door open for Spencer who automatically dropped his suitcase right there. He surveyed the cabin which had a medium sized main room with couches, a TV and shelves covered in board games. He heard someone shout from the other room which he assumed was where he would be sleeping.
"Hotch? Is that you?"
"Yeah. I've got your roommate here with me." Hotch grinned at Spencer who just brushed the comment off. He was used to digs at everything he did even his word choice.
"I was just claiming my bed," Derek said emerging from the bedroom. He was wearing a Camp Susquehana T-shirt, gym shorts and sneakers and he was the most handsome man Spencer had ever seen. "Hello, I'm Derek. You must be Spencer."
He offered his hand and it took Spencer everything he had to make his hand move and meet Derek's.
"Yeah, I'm Spencer." He mentally slapped himself for sounding so stupid.
"Well, I have alot more campers to make sure are in the right places. I'll see you two later," Hotch said and exited the cabin.
"So Spencer," Derek said settling on one of the couches. "You're going to be a sophomore?"
"What?"
"Well, we've got some time until the opening ceremony. I thought we could get to know each other."
"Oh, okay." Spencer sat down opposite Derek and contemplated how to answer the question without sounding like a show off. "I'm actually going to be a senior."
"I'm sorry. Hotch told me you were sixteen."
"Well, I am. I skipped two years."
"Wow. That's impressive. You know where you're going for college?"
"CalTech for engineering most likely."
"Nice. I'm just going to state university. Not sure for what yet. I'm going to play ball, though."
"That sounds good," Spencer said slowly. He was trying so hard not to say something stupid. Well, socially stupid.
"So, you got a girlfriend back home?" Derek asked slyly.
Spencer knew he was blushing. "No." He would leave it at that. Or so he though until he blurted out, "Do you?"
"Naw," Derek replied. "Okay, well, the ceremony is at 7:00 after supper. I'll let you get unpacked."
Before Spencer could say anything, Derek had leaped up from his position on the couch and was out the door.
'Mabe I'll stay more tha one week,' Spencer thought.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The first couple days went b and while Spencer dreaded playing sports and was pretty sure his sunburn qualified as third degree, he was having fun.
The other two campers in his group were welcoming even though he was the new kid. Kevin, with his over-sized glasses, was a techie who mourned the loss of code over the summer but was probably the best swimmer Camp Susquehana ever had. Will was originally from the South and spoke slowly and deliberately. Everything else he d with gusto. He listened to loud punk music and wore his combat boots every day.
Then, of course, there was Derek. He was charming, smart and a natural leader. When Spencer was apprehensive about playing football, Derek somehow talked him into tackling Will which wasn't easy. Spencer smiled as Derek clapped.
"Way to go Spence!"
Spence. It was silly "shortening" his name by one letter, but he had never ad a nickname before. Plus it was from Derek. He wore it with pride.
Yes, it had only been a few days and Spencer was in love. He almost expected cartoon birds to start singing as he burst out into song.
He had to be careful about that, though, because he was 99.9% sure Derek would either laugh at him or beat him up. Or both. He really had to stop harboring crushes on painfully straight guys.
Spencer sat in his bed wrting his first letter to his mom admitting that he was actually enjoying himself and that she could shove it in his face when he got home. Derek came in and when he saw him, flashed his "reduce Spencer to a puddle" smile.
"I was going to ask if you wanted to play one of those games, but I can see your busy."
"No, it's okay. I can finish it later. I'd love to play a game." Spencer sat the letter aside and followed Derek into the main room. "What did you want to play?"
"Well, they're mostly kids games, but there is a chess board, if that's okay."
"Sir, you are talking to the captain of the chess team," Spencer said straightening his posture and holding his head high.
"I guess I have my work cut out for me," Derek said He grabbed the board and began setting it up. "Take it easy on me, alright?"
"Alright, but I'm not letting you win."
"Sounds fair."
They played in silence at first, Spencer forcing himself to not take every piece Derek moved into danger. The whole facade fell by the wayside when he moved his knight incorrectly Spencer laughed and moved it back.
"You're not very good at this," he said, pointing out a much better move for his opponent. "Why did you pick chess?"
"Because I knew you'd want to play it," Derek replied quietly. He avoided Spencer's gaze and concentrated on the knight as he twisted it around deftly with his fingers.
Spencer wasn't normally one to make the first move. Okay, he never really had been in a position where anyone would be making a move. He knew though that this was his chance. He leaned over and kissed Derek. It was short, chaste, but sweet.
Suddenly, he heard a crash and was afraid that Derek was now going to proceed with his beating. Instead, he was being kissed back, Derek crawling across the table where the chess board had been.
The kiss was forceful, and Spencer wondered if lips could bruise. There was more longing than should have been allowed for two people who were so young and had only known each other for such a short amount of time.
'I guess I'm just lucky,' Spencer thought as his hands moved under Derek's shirt. He traced the muscles he had often admired. Derek took the hint and broke the kiss long enough to remove the thin piece of cotton.
He kissed Spencer on the lips once, then twice before moving to his neck where he kissed... licked... sucked...
And Spencer was moaning. He didn't realize it at first, but that was him. Derek stopped his assault and lovingly pushed Spencer's hair behind his ears.
"You're beautiful. You know that, right?"
Spencer could feel himself blushing and he tried hard to will it away. Why couldn't he accept the compliment from the god straddling him that until a minute ago he had been making out with?
Derek didn't wait for an answer, though, and kissed Spencer again. This time it was slower, more passionate. Spencer could feel himself melt into the kiss. It was such a cliche, but that's exactly what it felt like. He could stay this way forever.
Which is why he whimpered at the loss of Derek's lips on his. He could barely hear him saying, "Spence, we should take this slow."
"You're the one that climbed in my lap," Spencer countered.
"We have all summer and... I really don't want to mess this up."
Oh great. He was blushing yet again. Derek didn't seem to mind. Instead he kissed each cheek once which Spencer could swear made them burn more.
"Okay. We'll go slow," he said as Derek led him to the bedroom.
"I'll see you in the morning Spence."
"Goodnight."
Spencer could sense the letter for his mother under his pillow. He made a mental note to revise it and say he was really enjoying himself.
