Prompt: #451 - "There's nothing wrong with being average."
Pairing(s): Reid/Ethan
Ethan stared out the apartment window as the rain drops raced down the glass. It had been pouring for hours now and the ceiling always leaked during storms like this. He meant to set the buckets out, but he figured 'Why bother?' He and Spencer wouldn't be living here much longer. In two days they would be heading off to FBI Academy.
The front door creaked as Spencer walked in. Predictable, just like the ceiling. Ethan could feel the floorboards move underfoot as Spencer approached. He cautiously placed his hands on Ethan's shoulder and the move itself spoke for him.
"No, I haven't been drinking," Ethan mumbled. "I've just been thinking... There's nothing wrong with being average."
"What do you mean?" Spencer asked as he sat down next to Ethan on the window seat. He folded his hands on his lap, still weary of the man before him.
"Maybe I'm not cracked up to be in the FBI."
"Ethan, you will never be average. No matter what you do in life."
"I wish I could believe that."
Prompt: #442 - write about the worthy opponent
Character(s): Prentiss, Gideon
"Do you play?" His voice. Quiet. Gentle. Most of all sincere.
"Yes, I play," I say as I take Reid's seat across from him. We put the pieces back on the board and prepare to begin a new game.
I could see why even Reid with his brilliant mind had trouble reading Gideon's strategy and was therefore unable to determine his next move.
Three steps ahead. I was only one.
Still, the game ended in a stalemate and that voice said, "Ah, I have found my match."
Welcome to the BAU.
