Interesting

So, I went ahead and pre-ordered The Force Unleashed.  I almost never pre-order video games, but I decided I really wanted this one, after what I'd seen and read about it.  This evening, I decided to look at the official site, just for a lark, since I hadn't yet.

I was interested to note that the actors who are doing the voicework for several of the ( Read more... )

It looks interesting, though my general dislike of games where you're only option is to play a bad guy makes it somewhat unlikely I'll play it.

Generally, I agree with you, but this one has piqued my curiosity enough to overcome that distaste and give it a try anyway.

I'd note though, that redemption is a well-used theme in the Star Wars universe.

Just sayin'.

That's a rather good point. Duly noted, and I'll be interested to hear details from those that play it as to whether or not they think I'd enjoy it.

A fair point. Given the stated premise of the game, and what we know it has to allow for in subsequent events, it seems more likely than not that the PC experiences something along those lines eventually--otherwise, he'd have still been around once Ep IV starts, and, given the power he apparently commanded, Vader would have used him to overthrow the Emperor long before Luke came along.

I just hope they don't end the game with some sort of noble death by the PC or something. Or, at least, make it not the only option. I don't like crap endings that are railroaded.

From what I'm told, there should be branching paths to some degree.

To what degree, I have no idea - it might just be as simple as the KotOR Light or Dark endings, but I'm sure there'll be at least some different options.

That's what I'm hoping for as a base, at the least. I am hoping that LucasArts goes a step beyond that, and has a story with some true differentiation, though. KotOR was great at the time, by offering the illusion of choice, but the plot was still virtually identical regardless of one's choices. I'm still waiting to see a game with choices that make a real difference in the course of the game ( ... )
