| ➲ ACTION; at the park |

( Today is one day when Korea woke up early-exceedingly so. Ignoring the fact that he probably had work today, he makes his way to the park and begins to prepare for what is perhaps one of his favorite days of the year-New Years.

A; Despite the cold weather, Korea is putting up New Year’s decorations. On all of the trees he hangs paper lanterns with candles in them, in bright colors-red, pink, and yellow. There are also red and gold banners that carry wishes of happiness and fortune. Most of these decorations look authentically Korean, if handmade, but there are a few nods to Chinese, Vietnamese, and other cultures-paper flowers and signs in the various languages, or as much as Korea knows of them. A visual aide.

B; After the decorations have all been put up-it actually looks quite nice, the candlelight against the snow-Korea pulls out a large box he’s brought with him and begins laying out homemade paper kites. Most of them are rectangular, put a few come in strange animal shapes or have long ribbons dangling from them. He pulls out one which has a taeguek on it, and begins to try and fly it in the wind, and is less than successful.

Long story short, his best kite gets stuck in a tree. )

| ➲ ACTION; at various family member’s houses and those of others he’s met |

( C; Sometime later, Korea is arriving at his different siblings’ houses wearing his best red shirt-because he hasn’t managed to come up with a hanbok yet, saddens him to no end. Nevertheless, he’ll knock loudly on the door. )

Saehae bok man-hi ba-deu saeyo! Happy New Year! I came for Sebae, da ze! Open up!

( Notes: Sabae is a traditional New Year's activity in which youngsters go to wish their elders for the New Years, and also friends and other family. The other things are all traditional New Year's activities, as well. )

korean culture is better..., made in korea..., --action, holidays are awesome...
