Fast Times at Summer Hunt

Oh man. Where to start?

I suppose at the beginning. We got everything ready to go, and we had some buddies trailer our boys out to the event site for us. But sadly, we didn't get outside fast enough and they ended up taking down some live wires that ran from the garage to the barn with their trailer. Luckily, no one was hurt and we got the wires up and out of the way and the power shut off. However, we're gonna have to get that fixed.

So we get out to site, the boys are already there and I set up our camp while Dustin gets their fencing put up so they can move about and eat some food. The event was really small this year, but I think that's a combination of the economy sucking something fierce and the fact that Donwenna has been in the sandbox, so she hasn't been able to push all the advertising that she normally does.

Agulos and I got Dustin drinking Friday night, which was awesome. I understand that he's got his very specific goals that he wants to reach for his body and I'm all for supporting him getting there, but I don't think a couple of vodka and cranberries are gonna get that progress to a grinding halt. And of course, since I didn't have Rae Baby to feed, I got to drink too. (YAY Liquor!)

We were up at 7am Saturday morning. I only got about 6 hours of sleep, but I felt awesome. We got some coffee and breakers, then tacked up the horses so I could get approved for competing at events. I was riding Mercury, and we were having some issues. He was all excited and being a little snotty and I was having issued with controlling a snaffle bit, particularly one handed. But after a while, we got into a groove. I also found out that I sit in the saddle kida crooked, which also was why he wasn't doing what I wanted him to. I got ok'd for general riding and about half of the mounted combat before the tournament began. We got the rest hammered out Sunday morning. Merc was much better then too. Dustin placed fourth in the competition, which is damn good considering he was, not only competing against the kingdom equestrian champion, the former champion and a couple others that are damn good at gaming (I'm not sure who else has been champion, so I can't say that the others had been for sure), but was also on Jack, who had never done this before. He took to it like a natural.

Saturday evening saw the feast, and we promptly got rained out with a lovely thunder and lightning storm. A few fires were even started nearby due to said lightning. But I don't think they were bad. So all of the equestrians and a few others took shelter in the house and bullshit for the evening and got our drink on. It was good times.

Our tent managed to stay relatively dry, and with a borrowed charger from Agulos, the boys didn't get out. Although, if they had (like the previous night) it's not like they'd be able to go anywhere.

So after getting ok'd to compete on horseback (I'm a real equestrian mom!) we got the paperwork filled out and I got my horsey driver's license. We also got everything settled so that a couple others there would take Merc home with them. He's a good boy and awesome to ride, but he's just too expensive for us to feed and keep healthy, plus we don't have enough time to work with our boys regularly, which he needs in particular. And then we had some different buddies of ours set up to trailer Jack home, but there were some issues with him after we left and for whatever hair brained reason his horse brain could concoct, he would not get in the trailer without Merc. So after almost hanging himself, they gave him some horse Tylenol and the guys who got him out there brought him and Merc back. So hopefully we can get Merc to his new home soon. Jack seems to be doing ok, he's scraped up pretty bad, but I think that's just surface stuff, nothing serious. we're gonna go look at him soon and see how he's doing now that the needs have worn off and it's daylight again.

I've also learned that when I go to an event, I really just need to wear a veil. Cause sunblock just doesn't seem to work with me. I got so burnt. On the upside, it's just my face and chest, on the downside, I look like a matchstick :)

And now, I've got stuff to make, fabric to cut and weights to lift, though prolly not in that order.

Oh, and I totally want to make more garb for Dustin and myself, as always after an event. Le sigh.
