Reminding me that human kind is still, and always will be, predominantly moronic

Within the last 24 hours:
1. Byron got attacked by a dog running around off-leash in our condo complex
2. Byron got attacked by (another dog) running around off-leash in our condo complex.
3. We though there was a baby left in a car, but it turned out to be a doll.

#1 attack was probably my fault. I knew the dog and owner, and I knew that Byron and the dog do not get along, but I always attributed their shows of aggression to the on-leash thing (Byron only barks at other dogs when on leash, as do many a dogs). I could not get escaped dog to follow me back to the owners house, so I tried taking his collar. He then growled and fake snapped at me and proceeded to attack Byron. It's very hard to separate two dogs when one has no leash! I should have just walked straight to her house and told her where her dog was instead of trying to lead him.

#2 attack was in no way my fault. A little poodle was just standing out in the middle of the grass barking and barking. We tried to walk around him far away, but the poodle ran up and started attacking Bryon. I had to kick it away with my foot, but it kept chasing us. Then the owner came out with her bathrobe and took him. No doubt she let him out to do his business without having to bother walking him, and no doubt she wouldn't have cleaned up after his business either. There's a strict leash-only policy from our HOA. You know how much I can't stand our HOA, but I definitely support the leash rule.

It's for your own dog's protection, too. Last week when I was out gardening, I heard a ruccuss on the public path outside our house. Two standard poodles and a little Pekingese had gotten into it, and this woman starts screaming insanely at the guy with the poodles. "Do you see how small my dog is?! Your dogs could kill him!!" On and on. Guess what? The poodles were on leash. The little dog was just running around-- ran right up to them, and stayed once they started fighting. Anyone who doesn't leash their dog in leash areas holds all the blame for what happens to their dog. You can be a responsible dog owner even with an aggressive dog by keeping him under control, but you can't control when other people's unleashed dogs just run right up to you. Seriously; LEASH YOUR DOGS, people! For my dog's protection and yours!

#3: My coworker noticed a baby in a car seat in the car with the windows up next to his as he parked this morning. He took note and checked back out the window 10 minutes later, and it was still there. 20 minutes-- still there. 30 -- still there. It's shady and cool enough that the kid wasn't in danger, so we were debating the "what to do"s. The obvious thing to do is to call the cops, but without knowing the situation, and being able to monitor the car, we were hesitant to call right away considering the potential consequences to the parent and family. After five of use went down to the car one by one, we finally determined that the damn thing was a doll! Apparently put there to get in carpool lane. Makes me so mad! First, to alarm people like that! Cover the damn thing up if you're going to do that! Second, I can't stand when people cheat the system while the rest of us suffer by the rules. We should have just called the cops anyway.
