So, last month my brother discovered text messaging...

...and ran up a $400 phone bill.

My family has a plan where all four of us are on the same bill, and it just so happens that my name is the primary contact on the bill (I had my plan first, and when the rest of my family joined over, it wasn't changed, even though I don't pay the bill), so I got a call from Alltel today to inform me that my account had a lot of usage this month...well, more so than usual. When I asked why, I was told that my brothers number had used 1400 more text messages than it was alloted (which is a respectable 300 messages, so in total he'd used 1700 messages in one month). I was a little irked by this because of all the messages he sent, not one of them was to me. Actually, most of them were to one person, a friend of his at high school (who, unfortunately, isn't a girl...I'd be proud of the guy if it had been).

So, needless to say, my brother's going to be getting a talking to about the responsibilities of having a cell phone, and he's going to be covering the amount of the bill that were his messages (which, I think is only $200, the bill is usually half of what it was this month). Talking to the guy at Alltel, I actually found that this isn't unusual. In fact, it's pretty normal. The guy said when people go over their allotment, it's usually in the 5000 - 6000 text range. How somebody uses that many, I have no clue. At my peak, I think I used maybe 500 a month. I guess I'm just not that popular. :(

In other news, I'm ruining my $4000 smile. My dentist in Olney told me it would be fine to let my wisdom teeth go ahead and grow in as normal, but on further inspection it's obvious that there's not enough room. It hasn't threw any of the front teeth out of place, but there's one in the back that's being pushed way out of line. It started to hurt real bad last week and so I checked it out and discovered what was happening. I'm going to have the dentist here on campus look at them and pull them out, but I have to wait on my X-rays from Olney to get here first, which probably won't be until next week. I don't know why I didn't just have them pulled to begin with. They hook you up with some sweet pain killers when you do, so that's a plus.

Finished up a big project at the radio station the other day. I've been working on putting insulation on the walls in the production room, but had problems finding an adhesive that would work. Finally discovered liquid nails and it works like a charm. I may post some pics up here when I get the time to take some. It's quite a nice looking room now.

The Nashville studies class is turning out to be a blast. We have our third trip next week and I'm really looking forward to it, even though the last trip was a bit of a snorer. We listened to a copyright lawyer give a two hour lecture, but then we heard from the singer/songwriter Dick Feller (he wrote the theme for "Smokey and the Bandit" and a silly song called "I Just Don't Look Good Naked Anymore" just to name a few) and that was really interesting. Not sure what we'll be doing next time, but hopefully we'll get out and tour some recording studios like we did during our first trip. Seeing those big, million dollar studios is amazing and really makes the four hour trip down there worth it.

Started a couple of jobs on campus to help me pay some bills. They only amount to ten hours a week, but if I stick with them, I could have the full amount a student can get (which is twenty hours a week) by next semester, maybe even towards the end of this one. I work in the recording lab on Tuesday nights from 7 to 11 at night and then I work in the RT equipment checkout Wednesdays from 9a to 11a and Saturdays and Sundays from 8a to 10a. Yea, the weekends are kind of early in the morning, but I like it because it's helping me switch my sleep schedule around. I was still normally sleeping till noon like the typical young adult, but now I usually get up around 9 which helps me to get stuff done before heading to campus.

Finished reading Anna Karenin finally, and it was quite the read. Followed it up with The Lovely Bones, which seemed like a walk in the park compared with Tolstoy, but I enjoyed it was well. I didn't really like the ending (WTF is up with Susie and Ray near the end?...that really confused me and detracted from the overall story, I thought), but the rest of it was good. Working on The Great Shark Hunt by Thompson now and I hope to pick up his book The Rum Diaries next. That or Crime and Punishment by Fyodor Dostoyevsky.

Other than that, everything is going quite well. I still have radio shows three times a week, just check out my About Me on my Facebook for the times and the website address. I'm looking forward to Spring Break, which is the first week of March I believe, for a chance to head home for a week and see my friends, but in the mean time it's time to get the old nose back to the grinder.

Later...
