Hello, 2008.
Hello complete and utter inability to stick with New Years Resolutions.
Ahh, I suppose it's too early to start up with that again. As usual, I've resolved to lose a few pounds and to stick with a few old (and discarded) habits that I recently picked back up. I read like a madman over the Christmas break. Along with Brave New World and Fight Club, I read Siddhartha by Herman Hesse, Nightmares and Dreamscapes and now I'm about halfway through Anne Karenin by Leo Tolstoy. Reading is something I soak in like a sponge when it's something I like, and I seem to like artsy-fartsy, intellectual, make-you-think crap...and there's nothing wrong with that.
I actually broke down and finally exercised today. By God, the way I put it off you'd think doing it was going to kill me. Funny thing is, when I do exercise for a bit, I feel better, not worse, so who really knows why I put it off like the plague. And considering there's a student recreation center that's fully equipped and completely free, I've really got no reason to put it off any longer. I've been carrying around this unsightly gut for just a little to long.
Started filling out applications for scholarships for next year. Overall, at SIUC, I currently have a 3.786 GPA, and average my GPA from OCC into that and you get 3.548, which isn't too bad at all. It puts me well into the Dean's Honor Society and combined with my history of theater and performing, I should at least look good on paper. Now if that's enough to give me a nice shiny scholarship and all of the money that would make my life that much easier, I don't know, but I suppose I'll find out.
I got a little carried away last semester and spent through a good portion of what I had stashed away for this year. I've still got money in CD's at the bank to get me through next year (and thankfully I can't touch any of that till August), but I have about enough money to get me through two months right now. So, after I get into the swing of this semester and get my what's sure to be hectic schedule lined out (duties with WIDB, seeing as how I'm chief engineer, are going to take up a good portion of my time) hopefully I can still pull at minimum fifteen hours at some fast food place. I have gobs of previous experience and two shining references with options for up to four if I need them, so I shouldn't have trouble finding someone who wants me, it'll just be a matter of convincing them to work around my ridiculous schedule.
I'll have to work my ass of this summer, too, especially if I end up having to live off my credit card for a few months, which might happen. I just have to cut out all unnecessary things (goodbye Friday night Quatro's pizza...you were delicious while you lasted) and find cheaper alternatives for things I do now. Not like I paint the town every weekend or anything, but I do have my interests and they do require money...money I'm not longer going to have.
*sigh*
At least I still have my computer and my free downloads. That can usually cheer me up.
Anyways, back to filling out apps so I can turn them in by next week. Then Monday it'll be back to the old nose grinder. The only class I'm not particularly looking forward to is Accounting. I only hear bad things about that class, but considering my track record when it comes to math, I'm hoping it won't be too difficult.
Later...
