Who'll Stop the Rain?

Oct 27, 2010 08:45

Nothing like a rain that starts right after the Weather Channel says it ain't gonna rain for another 5 hours.

I went to a congressional candidates' debate last night without putting the tarp back on the roof.

I had just finished replacing damaged plywood and only had time to eat while watching the weather forecast, and change my nasty sweaty shirt.

Of *course* it started to drizzle during the debate.

I wound up wrestling, positioning, attaching, and weighting a wet tarp on a wet roof in the dark, in the rain. My bicycle helmet with the DiNotte LED headlight made it possible. Despite the drizzle, it was hot, sweaty work.

I still managed to step on the *safety* rope, and had it roll under my foot. The bad news is that I fell. The good news is that I landed on the roof deck, and did not slide, roll, tumble, or break through. It wasn't exactly a trampoline, but a roof deck is very springy, and forgiving.

It has been *pouring* this morning, and I've had to adjust the tarp a bit to deflect the rain pouring off the edge, away from the sliding door and light fixture.

No rest for the wicked.

rain, fall, roof
