Arashi no Shukudai-kun: 113. Mini translation

Dec 08, 2008 23:16

Finals week has come. Took the JLPT yesterday and two finals today. One more final left for Wednesday and then I'm home free! Realized I already made a few mistakes on the JLPT. Took some guesses for listening (doesn't help you only hear everything once and you forget what information you're supposed to be looking for). Well, can't wait to get the results in February/March.

Tonight however, I watched the latest episode of Arashi no Shukudai-kun with Ito Yuna, and tried my hand at translating it! I have the script written out now, but there are some blank spots that I thought I'd try to fill in later, and then there are a few spots where it was too hard to make out what's said due to mumbling or overlapping speech. For now, here's a bit of the parts I particulary enjoyed (though there is another part to come, where Sho tries to come up with a name for the dessert Ito Yuna made herself)! I might try and finish the rest later this week or something, if anyone would be interested. Subject to mistakes, but I think the gist of it is pretty good.

(?) Means I wasn't sure if the line was completely correct or just didn't get that line.

Talking to Yuna about having come from Hawaii...

Sho: And so that was the first time you came to Japan?
Yuna: Yeah. I started living here one year before debut.
Sho: And so when did you start living in Hawaii?
Yuna: Let's see... I was born in Los Angeles and went right to Hawaii.
Ogura: Born in Los Angeles and raised in Hawaii?
Yuna: Yes.
Sho: How about you, Aiba-kun?
Aiba: Well, I was born in Makuhari, and raised in Makuhari.
Nino: And yet your Japanese isn't very good.
Aiba: Hey now.
Sho: Now, we need a nickname for Ito Yuna. What were you called?
Aiba: Yeah, we want to know.
Yuna: Yuna.
Sho: Yuna is a really pretty name.
Everyone: It's a good name.
Sho: What does it mean?
Yuna: I don't know
Sho: I don't know
Sho: All I can say is perfect body

Aiba: Yuna is a pretty name, so rather than doing the name everybody calls you, I want to focus on the Itou part. What do you think of Itokin?
Sho: I don't think it's very good.
Aiba: You're right, it doesn't work. What am I saying?
Sho: That's enough for today.
Aiba: Let's go with “Yuna-chan”
Everyone: We'll go with Yuna-chan?
Sho: Of course the regular.
Jun: Then what was all that time for?

The VTR from Hawaii 10 years ago.....

Reporter: Johnny's new group, Arashi! Welcome! Who's leader, Ohno-kun?
Ohno: We don't have a Leader. Well, I'm the oldest, but... I'm the dance leader.
Reporter: Dance leader? Is there something for each one of you then?
Ohno: Yeah, there is.
Reporter: So MatsuJun is?
Jun: Well me... what am I? Well, I haven't decided, but I thought I'd go for the comedic side...
Reporter: Comedic sounds good. That so?
Reporter: Your goals for the future... How about Aiba-kun?
Jun: What's up with you!?
Aiba: Starring in movies.... I've gotten the lead role, but...
Nino: Just how nervous were you!?
Aiba: From here on out, I'd like to make big hits.
Jun: You look like you were going to fall over from anemia!
Nino: I also want to continue working in dramas and work hard with Arashi.
Reporter: And finally, Sakurai-kun.
Sho: Of course it's dancing and acting, but...
Nino: Your voice is totally different, isn't it?
Sho: ...I aim to graduate high school, and after that go on to college... I want to do well on the school side of things.
Reporter: I see.

Aiba: Yeah!
Ogura: Things sure change in 10 years.
Jun: Yeah, our voices changed.
Nino: Our comedic relief leader certainly changed.
Jun: What was that? I had thought I'd aim to be the comedic relief leader.
Nino: Why is that?
Ohno: We had that in the beginning. Each of us being a leader with something.
Jun: That's why you're the leader with dancing, right? And the leader with studies.
Sho: You're being arbitrary(?)
Ohno: You're the acting leader..
Nino: That's right. There's no ambiguity with that. And what leader are you?
Aiba: The silver screen. Movies.
Nino: Movies?
Sho: So then the one left is... comedic relief leader?
(writing: Matsumoto: Comedic relief Leader)
Nino: Well that certainly came out, but...
Sho: Well, honestly, you changed in 10 years, right?
Jun: I honestly changed.
Sho: When did you think of quitting as comedic relief leader?
Jun: As comedic relief?
Nino: When was it you thought of quitting being comedic relief? When did you think that?
Jun: When I thought of quitting as comedic relief.... well, but... I haven't given up.
Sho: No way. No way?
Jun: No, no. I gave up.
Nino: Yeah, I thought so.
Jun: Yeah, I gave up.
Sho: Yeah, with Hawaii, we... (?) (He trailed off and I haven't quite figured it out just yet)
Yuna: Yeah, that's great.
Sho: Speaking of Hawaii, the hula dance.
Yuna: Right.
Sho: There's a big image of it, but can you do the hula?
Yuna: Yeah. Those from Hawaii should be able to do at least the basic steps.
Jun: Why?
Yuna: In elementary school, we're all in Hawaiian culture.
Aiba: You mean it was a class?
Yuna: Yes.
Sho: Can you dance it even now?
Yuna: The basic stuff, yeah.

So yeah... I'll continue this if anybody wants me to. I'm just a little hesitant to post even this to a community just yet.... I was hesitant to even post here!
