Trying to find a nutritious breakfast

Dec 19, 2012 20:17

Okay, a long time issue with working the day shift in my department is that the shift starts at 5:00 am, and I am not allowed to leave the building until the end of my shift 10 hours later. We do not get a lunch break (or any kind of break, basically), instead, it is expected that we will have frequent "down time" in which nothing is happening, which we can use for munching, smoking, etc.

My alarm clock goes off at 3:30 am, and I leave at 4:00 as I am still walking to the office every day. I usually eat breakfast there as I usually arrive 10 minutes early or so, only... I have nothing to eat. Nothing is open along the walk to the office (except for Plaid Pantry: No), and I am terrible about cooking/packing something in advance because it always tastes like crap by the time I get there.

New idea/plan. Monday, on the way home from the office, I picked up a small summer sausage because I was in the mood for one, and ate half of it. Tuesday morning I figured "What the hell" and sliced up the remaining portion, my bit of leftover cheddar cheese, and the last of my baby carrot sticks into a single serving tupperware container and ate that when I arrived. It was surprisingly nice, and I have decided to do similar for breakfast every morning next week, as an experiment.

Sliced sausage, sliced cheese, and either a cut up apple or pear (better than carrots I think), and then my usual morning black tea 30-60 minutes after I finish it off. Quick, easy, and something I can do in less than 5 minutes before walking out the door in the morning.

Good idea from a nutrition standpoint? Suggestions? Screams of the sky falling? Oh my three readers, do let me know.

health, work
