I swear, one of these days I'll write about something other than organizing the house, or Sephie. But today I finally set Sephie's room up to where I feel like I can breathe in it.
Walking into the room, my desk is set up immediately to the left, complete with my chair. Nothing extraordinary about that. But across from my desk is a bench I previous kept in my bathroom, a wrought iron affair with a soft beige pad which will be perfect for nursing. I actually have the nursing pillow resting on there right now.
Next to the bench is the changing table. We brought her changing table home from the in-laws. The first shelf is taken up by the changing mattress, but the second shelf is housing all of her newborn clothes, two packs of diapers, the diaper warmer and wipes. The bottom shelf is missing (we actually received it in that condition) so I wedged two Longaberger baskets in space down there. The larger gathering basket is housing her socks (all 50+ pairs!) and the smaller gathering basket is just the right size for her five pairs of shoes. I also hung a key basket on each side of the changing table, with the one on the left holding the wipes and butt paste. The one of the right is holding her pacifiers.
Once B is finished with staining and buffing the dresser and nightstand, I'll shift the stool and changing table to the other side of the room. I just needed to do this for the time being so that I feet Sephie's room is more organized. I'm keeping just about all of her important baby items in here for now, like her jumper and swing. Some of them I'll move down to the living room just because it'll be a long time before she needs them, and I don't want to take up too much space in her room because there isn't a lot to play with anyway. We also have her bassinet in here, and that's going to be relocated to our room as soon as I'm finished organizing in there.
I was also able to organize her closet, moving the plastic drawers that had been in her closet to Hayden's. He also has a set of wooden drawers that we're staining and cleaning up for him, but I don't think the kid can have too many drawers. We'll put his clothes in the dresser and use the plastic drawers for toys or something. Sadly, getting him a toy box is on the long-term to-do list, but it isn't an immediate priority.
The accessories I ordered for the guest bathroom arrived on Saturday, which included an etagere, a magazine rack, an over-the-door rack, toilet brush holder and trash can. I moved the etagere from mine and B's bathroom and took the new one, giving us an additional shelf for storage, as well as the over-the-door rack for our robes and towels. I put the magazine rack downstairs in the half bath because it's the one place I trust the magazines not to get ruined, and moved all the accessories into the guest bathroom. I also inherited a organizational cart,
one of those Munchkin carts on wheels deals, which I promptly stocked with the hooded towels, wash cloths, and baby bath items. It's white and blue, so it doesn't match the bathroom which kind of bothers me, but it's doable. It'll be a great way to organize the kids' items.
However, I realized I am woefully under-prepared in the towel department. I did hang all of Sephie's bath robes in the bathroom and put several of her sleepers on the cart (because it makes sense to me that we'll bathe her right before bed time) but we'll definitely need more towels and more wash cloths, as well as burp cloths. The burp cloths may not be much of an issue, however, just due to the sheer fact she has so many bibs, around 45 at last count!
It still feels like there is SO much left to do. I will admit that feeling has been decreasing over the weeks, but I'm still scared to death. Now that I'm thinking about it, when in the hell is the handyman going to return with Sephie's crib? And, when is our freaking television going to arrive?
