I'm a Roma Woman

After seeing this I gain a little hope in humanity. I think there is an American ideal that racism isn't as bad everywhere else as it is here or that it is only blacks and whites or Mexicans and whites. This campaign Mundi Romani (their site is just being built) Has a message that I approve of, not just because it is close to home, but because I think they have the right idea. Ending racism through education of both sides but mostly education of the persecuted side so that they can be seen as a more valuable part of society. I think it is important to show that there are already productive members of the group in society for those who see the "minority" as a burden. I know it will always be a slow march to the ending of racism and that there will always be an us and them mentality for most people but I have hope when I see things like this that more people may step up and see people for people.

Just as I get my hopes up though Florida dashes them with this bullshit. (by way of Fark.com) Self-proclaimed? really? You don't hear people going around being called out on being self-proclaimed White or some shit, why? because we'd call bullshit on it but with the Roma that is not so. People have for centuries used that word to be a reason for criminal activities....gypsy. Sadly, I see it in the Pagan religion as well from time to time. The whole self-proclaimed Gypsy BS and people wonder why I don't talk much about it. Anyway I diverge. If this woman was so Legendary? Why the hell haven't I heard about her? I guess I expect too much consistency from the world. I guess I expect people in the news to try to be PC and not make it sound like being of a certain race or ethnicity is a crime.

Anyway... let's not be a downer on Mother's day... so I leave you with a song to bring you some amusement. Cookies to anyone who actually saw this when it was on the first time.
