Of course, the whole "the effects aren't as good as they can do now" kind of thinking is what gets the crap going. "Escape from New York" isn't about "effects". I like it as it stands - one of the best dystopia movies ever made (along with the real "Blade Runner", not the theatre release with that damned lame ending). And no one other than Kurt Russell can be Snake. He owns the part.

I agree whole heartedly with everything you've said. EFNY is all about the ideas of people pushed to the edge. Effects aren't needed. Honestly, there isn't much room for effects in the movie.. no explosions or anything except the plane at the beginning.

Exactly! I don't see what they feel needs to be "improved". The cassette tape? Who gives a flying fuck?!

Oh the cassette is so perfect.. who, that lived that age, did not feel a moment of wanting to strip and tear a tape like that? LOL

Exactly! But I guess because it's too old-fashioned or whatever.

Yeah, everything is electronic these days. Although a CD is satisfying to crack (having done a number of them myself), there's just so much more fun flinging around tape.

Exactly. And think about all the other stuff that in modern tech things would not work. All the radar devices and tracking and shit. Eh... it just doesn't seem right to me.
