I got off work and made it into downtown last night and waited for the next bus to show up (11:15pm). While waiting at 4th and pike for the bus, I had 2 guys standing right behind me inside my comfort zone (about 3 feet) doing a crack deal. I guess they were using me as a shield to hide what they were doing. like a person standing next in front of an angry dog, I didn't move so as to avoid a possible assault at all costs. Thank god that only lasted about 7-8 minutes for my bus to show up and then went up to capitol hill. I stopped at the safeway on 15 to grab a couple of beers for the night cap before bed (I need to cut back on the brew. it's starting to make me fat).
Anyway, while I was waiting in line, I noticed the theme of all the magazines that are around the checkout counters. celebrity marrages, celeb divorces, sex, relationships, dieting, etc....
Life is a bit more important that that crap and there's bigger things happening right now than having to deal with messages of self image and how your supposed to look, and how to be a "sex god/goddess" crap.
Beauty and sex is all they are about, those magazines. not one thats worth a shred of intellectual information worthy of intelligent stimulation.
Why are we all assaulted with so much drivel everyday in our lives with themes of being told we are only worth the size of our bank accounts, what we wear, and whom we are sleeping with?
I may not have much, but I'm a human being god damnit and my life has meaning, more meaning that the mindless crap on a grocery store shelf that dumbs down the masses.
