❦ basics
Name: Cogsworth
Age: unknown, possibly in his late 30s?
Gender: Male
Movie/series: Beauty and the Beast
year or position: English teacher
Non-Speaking Animal Companion(if any): None
Powers(if any): No powers per se, but being a clock means he doesn’t experience pain in a normal way and can’t be injured. Other than that he’s pretty powerless.
❦ In depth:
Personality:  Cogsworth is tightly-wound, meticulate, and orderly. While on one hand he is loyal and good-hearted, on the other hand he can be bossy, pompous and even rude. He likes being in control of things, and knowing that everything is working smoothly and according to plan. When things get out of hand, he panics and struggles with the situation. He doesn’t like confrontation and will quickly back off in the face of a greater force, he’s submissive to rage and anger. He just lets things happen if there’s any chance of danger should he oppose. However, he will not hold back from sharing his opinion should something catch his attention, and is fine with confronting people who annoy him more than they intimidate him.
He’s calm and collected most of the time, trying to carry on an air of refinement and organization. He’s knowledgeable and loves showing it off should the chance appear. While he seems very well-kept most of the time, getting him upset or annoyed will show a slightly louder side to his personality. He has quick wit, short temper and little humor, especially around those who ignore his instruction or just simply annoy him. When he gets scared he’s very defensive and quick to appease whatever the opponent wants, he stutters and uses each word carefully to not upset them. Certain traits like this are most likely caused by his time working for the Beast, they’re deeply crippling and it takes a lot of effort for him to work past that.

Greatest Fear: Never becoming human again, being broken, The Master...

Canon Background: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Characters_in_Disney%27s_Beauty_and_the_Beast

AU Background: If only he hadn’t let the Master open the door on that cold Christmas night, things could have been so much better. But as it was, the Master turned down the enchantress in disguise, and brought a curse upon all within the castle. The Prince became an unruly Beast, and the staff became objects. Cogsworth, once the proud majordomo and overseer of the castle staff, now found himself cursed in the form of a very animate mantle clock. For countless years he hopelessly accepted his fate, positive that love would never break the curse with the Master the way he was. It didn’t seem fair to him and the rest of the staff that they were punished for their Master’s wrong doing, but as time went on the realization sunk in. In their inaction and submission to their Master’s uncontrollable temper and destructive ways, they had helped make him into the Beast he was now. The curse had also opened their eyes to how he saw them as well, as possessions instead of people. Cogsworth’s life seemed like it would solely revolve around caring for an uncaring Beast, and collecting dust on a shelf.

But for the first time in years, hope briefly overcame the enchanted castle staff when a beautiful young Girl became trapped as the Master’s prisoner. She was gorgeous and intelligent, and all of the servants were sharing the similar hope that perhaps she would be the one to look past the Beast’s monstrous exterior and break the curse. It was a long shot- but there was a chance. That is, until the Master caught her in the West Wing. He threw a temper tantrum and she ran off. But soon after the Beast took his invitation and followed her to the academy, leaving behind his servants and the empty castle- all they could do now was hope and pray. Their fate and the curse rested in the Master’s hands now.

As it turns out, Cogsworth was not as trapped in this predicament as he thought. He discovered an invitation to the academy on the castle steps, and a chance to make a difference opened up. If he found the Master and the Girl, perhaps he could help ensure that their relationship continued as planned and would break the curse! And not only that, but this opportunity would give him a chance at something else. As a teacher, he could educate, act as a mentor, and help the other students in whatever way possible. It would allow him to gain redemption for his own inabilities to teach and properly raise the Master. He left the castle’s care in the hands of the rest of the staff and made his way to the academy. He’s a little flustered and uncertain in this new school setting and is learning as he goes. His main goals at the moment are finding the Master and the Girl, and finding a place within the academy as a teacher.

Appearance: Small, wooden mantle clock with golden embellishments. Some of his odder physical traits are the 4 stumpy legs at his base, which are usually used 2 at a time to create an odd waddle-walk, his chest has a glass opening to see the pendulum inside, and can be opened; and he has clock hands in place of a mustache.
Classes: None yet, soon to start his own classes
Clubs: None yet
Best Subject: English
How long have they been at the school(remember this school is from kindergarten on): First year

❦ Writing
Third person writing sample: One of the most daunting things about the curse was how much bigger the world seemed to become, a climb up a flight of stairs became a mountain expedition; and now this simple act of talking to a regular human being became an uncomfortable experience that required a painful leaning back movement to stare up into the other fellow’s face. If simple tasks like this were going to be so challenging, Cogsworth was unsure that he’d be able to survive a mere week out here.
The world was so much more intimidating than he remembered outside of the castle. Everything was new and different, there was no order or comfortable predictability out here.
And it terrified him.

The confused student blinked, obviously he was too busy staring at Cogsworth to hear a word of what he had asked.
“Huh? Sorry I wasn’t listening..” The kid mumbled.
Cogsworth held back the urge face palm, instead letting out a quiet groan. He leaned back and asked again, a little louder this time. “I said, have you seen a prince here? I’m one of his.. servants, I should say, and I urgently need to find him!”
The student looked around the hallway. “I dunno, there’s a lot of princes here.”
Oh, yes, there probably was.. Cogsworth tried again, hoping to be more specific. “Well, he’s.. eh..” He paused for a moment, not wanting to describe him in an unpleasant manner, afraid that the Master could be somewhere nearby and walk in at the wrong moment. “Erm..He has fur and- uh.. horns, if that helps.”
Again another blank, gape-mouthed expression as response. “Huh?”
Cogsworth rolled his eyes and sighed exasperatedly. “Never mind, never mind!”

Suddenly a thought struck him and he looked back up at the student. “You wouldn’t happen to know the time, would you?”
Neither he nor the student seemed to notice the irony of that, and the kid looked down at the watch on his wrist. “Yeah, it’s uh.. 7:58.”
The small clock’s eyes widened and he ran off in a panic, tossing back a quick and flustered “Thank you!” as he rushed off toward his brand new classroom. He was absolutely NOT going to be late on his first day.

(haha, pardon the use of the random nameless student! XD)
First person writing sample:
[He stands in front of the camera, looking a little embarrassed and not really giving it proper eye contact.]
I, er- *AWKWARD COUGH*... Has anyone seen any stray gears laying about the campus?
[He seems a little apprehensive to be asking, as if it’s taken much self-arguing to finally get off his high horse and admit he doesn’t have everything under control]
I really have no idea what has happened to them, I checked earlier this evening and found a few missing! My guess is that I must have fallen and lost some without realizing it.. If you find any, I implore that you bring them to me as soon as possible! I will most likely be in my classroom or the dorms. Any help is appreciated! [He frowns and tries to turn off the video. It doesn’t work the first couple times he presses the button, he furrows his brows and keeps trying, becoming more and more aggitated as it goes on] B-blasted thing!!! [Finally the screen shuts off with a loud FZZT]
