❦ BASIC STATISTICS
Name: Cogsworth
Age: 38 (48 if you include the 10 years of the curse)
Distinguishing/Hidden features: He’s a walking, talking french-style mantle clock. His clock hands function as a moustache (but can apparently still tell time if he chooses), he has 4 legs at his base, which can work independently or work 2 at a time so he can walk normally. He also has a glass door to his chest, which can open to reveal the pendulum and various gears (which have a tendency to fall out).
Style: Simple, but elegant. As a human, he dresses in fancy attire and carries around a gold watch, and it translated into his design as a clock. His style isn’t over-the-top, but it’s still intricately carved and sporting small embellishments of gold. He cares about his presentation and appearance, but he doesn’t go out of the way to attract attention.
Greatest flaw: Cogsworth can be a very bossy and a bit of a nag, he doesn’t like it when things don’t go his way or when people ignore him. He love being in control and feeling a sense of authority, but he knows his place and when he needs to follow orders.
Around certain people, he’s fine with confrontation, and will be more than capable of snapping back should they annoy him. He’s also very picky about organization and management of time.
Best quality: He’s intensely loyal and good-hearted, and for the most part will treat others very politely. He will rush to the aid of those he cares abut in times of emergency, and he always tries to maintain the trust other people place in him.
❦ BACKGROUND
Character's Financial/Social Situation: Cogsworth, clock or not, is a member of the upper class. He’s not wealthy, and his family isn’t particularly powerful, but he’s been provided for enough to get an education and was able to get a job caring for a Prince and his castle. He’s pretty well-off, but since the enchantment, money hasn’t really had any use to him.
Educational Background: Cogsworth was educated at home, becoming well-rounded in a few subjects, but he mostly excelled at English.
Family & Relationships:
Father (deceased)- Cogsworth never got along with his father, though that doesn’t mean they ever fought. His father was a man with a very powerful presence, he was very strict and self-conscious of social status. He was in control of many important decisions in Cogsworth’s life.
It was from his father that he first learned to obediently follow orders, and deep down he wishes that he had that same intimidating authority. Cogsworth’s father died when he was in his late teens, but with no real emotional connection to the man, he didn’t get terribly upset over it.
Mother (presumed dead)- Where his father was always cold and at arms-distance, his mother was very loving, overprotective and a bit of a worry wort. She spoiled him a bit, and was very intent on making sure not only that he would be successful in life, but that he would be happy as well. After the death of his father, she was able to establish Cogsworth a job working as a majordomo and staff leader for upper class family households, eventually leading him to working within the Beast’s Castle. He hasn’t communicated with his mother since he left for France, and he safely assumes that she’s passed away by this point.
Beast- Cogsworth has been in the employment of the Beast for many, many years. When the Prince was still a child, he was always infuriated with the boy’s unruly behavior, he left him in the care of the other servants while he tended to other matters within the Castle. After the death of the Prince’s parents, his behavior only got worse, though this time Cogsworth actually did attempt to make a difference and help care for the boy. But any attempts to teach the young prince manners or provide any teaching lessons ended in failure and frustration, it seemed like nothing could calm down his short temper. This only got worse after the enchantment.
Cogsworth is terrified of the Beast’s temper tantrums, though he knows that there’s a good heart below all that fur. He blames himself a bit for how things have turned out, believing that if he and the rest of the staff had taught the Beast to control himself when he was still a prince, he wouldn’t have wound up being so unruly and bringing the enchantment upon them all. Despite the regret and fear Cogsworth feels for the Beast, he’s still very loyal and puts his Master’s priorities far above his own.
Lumiere- Lumiere is Cogsworth’s rival, counter part, and best friend. The two are absolute opposites in nearly every way, they often squabble, make fun of each other, and argue, but never to the intensity where it would strain their friendship. Cogsworth is often upstaged or at odds with Lumiere, and he has trouble handling the waxy maitre d’s rebellious, laid-back and romantic nature. The two have a very love-hate friendship, but they care about each other more than they let on. Lumiere is very kind-hearted, hospitable and loyal, and in the end his positive traits outnumber the negative ones in Cogsworth’s mind. He’s the most understanding of why Lumiere became a candelabra when the enchantment was cast- he’s a guiding light in the dark.
Character's Spiritual/Religious Beliefs: Cogsworth was raised Catholic, but had a falling out from faith after the enchantment. Magic and religion don’t really go hand-in-hand, and rather than frustrating himself by trying to make sense of two things he doesn’t really understand, he dropped religious belief since it had no physical manifestation in his life like magic did.
❦ EMOTIONAL/MENTAL CHARACTERISTICS
Any Mental Illnesses? Nope!
How does Character see himself/herself? Organized, well-mannered, good at keeping things under control.
How does Character believe he/she is perceived by others? He realizes how bizarre it is that he’s a talking clock, and can get self-conscious about that sometimes. But for the most part he hopes that he’s on good terms with people.
How would others describe your Character? Nervous, polite, tightly wound. (derp)
What is the spine of your character? WEAK. He’s a huge scaredy cat, and in the face of danger he’ll back off and do everything he can to keep away from confrontation, he’ll even try to appease the source of his fear. He’s not one to stand up and fight for any reason, the only thing that could instill bravery in the little guy is if you mess with his friends. BECAUSE THEN YOU’LL GET SCISSORS UP YOUR BUTT, MAN >8C
What is the mental process of your character? Cogsworth likes to plan things out, and prefers to know absolutely everything in advance. He can’t handle spontaneity or sudden change very well, it causes him to panic and struggle through the situation. He tries to think before he speaks and tread carefully through life, not taking huge risks and thinking things through before acting.
What would most embarrass this character? When people point out mistakes he’s made, probably. He also gets flustered when people talk down to him.
What does the character want out of life? To be human again (he even sang about it!), but also he wants to know he’ll have some good friends supporting him, and that he’s been able to be there for them as well.
What would the character like to change in his/her life? He wishes that he was better at sticking up for himself and wasn’t so much of a pushover.
What motivates this character? A sense of duty, loyalty, and fear.
What frightens this character? The thought of never being freed from the spell, the Master’s temper tantrums, the Mist, the feeling of being powerless.
What makes this character happy? Having everything go according to plan, being able to relax, feeling a sense of accomplishment.

❦ STATEMENTS
I believe when we die, we: ..er.. go to.. heaven? I’m not really sure...
The greatest thing one person can do for another is: be there to provide for them.
The ugliest thing I ever saw was: the broken furniture that littered the West Wing. I’m still unsure of whether they had once been alive or not..
The most beautiful thing I ever saw was: the rose.
I am superstitious about: karma, treating others as you wish to be treated, strangers...
