X-Men Evolution A-Z Part 1

Mar 19, 2006 10:33

I finally finished this. Since it's rather long, I'll post it in three parts.

Acolytes
The group that Magneto gathered around him. It consists of Gambit, Pyro, Sabretooth and Collosus. Later Mastermind is forced to join and Pietro was there for a while before he was send back to the Brotherhood.
In fanon the Acolytes suddenly become a clone of the Brotherhood. Instead of a group of mutants being forced to work with each other, they’re suddenly a little family or even just friends. They also magically de-age, so Gambit and Pyro can attend Bayville High, even though both characters are clearly not teenagers anymore. And even if they were, they wouldn’t go to High School.

Amanda Sefton
Kurt’s girlfriend on the show, first introduced in the episode “Shadow Dance”. Amanda likes Kurt, doesn’t care about his looks (she actually likes it) and even defied her parents to keep seeing him. For some reason all of the above turns for fangirls into this: cheating, lying, manipulative scumbag bitch, that will rip out Kurt’s heart the first chance she’ll get. This is often done so Kurt will be free and angsty, afterwards he can then be paired up with Kitty or Mary Sue.

Antropromorphs (a.k.a. Physical Mutations)
A special brand of Mary Sues that has certain animal features. The most common ones are catgirls, but often they are simply covered in fur (in all colours of the rainbow), scales, have tails, claws and/or wings. Often Sues have strangely coloured eyes like cat’s eyes or brightly coloured rainbow hair (with or without streaks). Other may have odd markings or tattoos on their bodies, often being the hint to some special destiny or heritage.
No matter what freak of nature these Mary Sues may be, they have never trouble finding stylish clothes at Hot Topic and everyone still thinks they are absolutely beautiful unless they are evil. These Sues never seem to have trouble with their physical mutations, unlike the canon characters. Kurt is normally the victim of these Sues, but some also go for Todd.

Apocalypse
Apocalypse is the oldest mutant in canon, being born in ancient Egypt. He was imprisoned for several thousand years until he was freed by Mesmero. He has more powers than any other mutant and he can give more power to other mutants, who he controls. These are the Four Horseman of Apocalypse, which were Professor X, Storm, Mystique and Magneto. It took the combined work of several mutants to fight the Horseman and imprison Pocky again.
In fanon, Apocalypse has spawned a Mary Sue daughter or two. Some other Sues are said to be even more powerful than him. Otherwise he’s pretty much ignored.

Avalance a.k.a. Lance Alvers
Lance is the oldest member of the BoM (around 18) and was introduced in episode 2. He is from Chicago, like Kitty, and was in a foster home when he was first mentioned, so we can presume that his parents are either dead, abandoned him or he was taken away from them. His mutant power is to make earthquakes (and stupid rock puns).
Canon!Lance isn’t so bright, has a thing for Kitty Pryde, (hehe, I rhymed), thinks smashing things is a good tactic and has a sensitive stomach. And that’s pretty much the only sensitive thing about him. He has slightly darker skin, wears his hair in a brown mullet and gloves most of the time. In one episode we see him playing a guitar.
Fanon!Lance is quite the genius and tactician, is sensitive and witty, can be a suave romantic or an evil date rapist (depending on the pairing). He is mostly paired with Kitty, Rogue, Mary Sue, Pietro and Scott. He attracts his fair share of Mary Sues, either as girlfriends or sisters. These are mostly of the rebelling variety.

Brotherhood of Mutants
Group of villains that oppose the X-Men. It was founded by Magneto and mostly managed by Mystique, who both pretty much ditched them after season one. The location of the BoM is the Brotherhood of Bayville Boarding House. The members of the Brotherhood are Todd Tolensky, Lance Alvers, Fred Dukes and Pietro and Wanda Maximoff. Temporary members have been Rogue and Tabitha Smith.
In canon the Brotherhood is a group of delinquents that like to cause trouble for the X-Men and other people. The rest of the time they pretty much just hang around and do whatever they want. They seem to get by well on their own, but are not above to leave the group for personal reasons (like Lance and Pietro). The house itself is shabby, rundown and dirty and seems to be full at the moment.
In fanon the Brotherhood either becomes a little fluffy family and tight knit group or some kind anti-human terror group that makes epic plans against the X-Men. Mary Sues that join the Brotherhood are often of the rebelling variety and like to make the BoM boys their personal hangers-on.

Canon
The actual TV show. Everything that happens and is told there is considered canon.

Colossus a.k.a. Piotr Rasputin
Colossus was forced to join the Acolytes by Magneto, who threatened Piotr’s family if he refused. He later helps in the fight against Apocalypse. He is tall and with big muscles, has black hair and his mutation is to become covered in metal, which also makes him pretty much invulnerable and strong.
He doesn’t do much in fanfics unless he’s paired with Kitty.

Cyclops a.k.a. Scott Summers
Scott was (according to the comics) the first student to join the X-Men. He is, together with Jean Grey, the oldest and has become the leader of the group. He is originally from Alaska, where he lived with his family on a military base. When he was around ten years old, his parents died in a plane crash. He and his brother survived, but were separated and each assumed the other had died. At the end of season one Scott is reunited with his brother Alex. The fall from the plane was also responsible for the brain injury that Scott had, which makes him unable to control the optic blasts that come out of his eyes.
Canon!Scott is a serious young man, that sometimes expects too much from himself and his team-mates. While he can be a stick in the mud sometimes, he also knows how to have fun. Lapses in judgement do happen to Scott from time to time, but for the most part he is very reliable and responsible and even at his worst has only the safety of his friends in mind. Scott has short brown hair and wears special sun glasses at all times to keep his optic blasts in check.
Fanon!Scott becomes a drill sergeant that has nothing better to do than to plan training sessions in the Danger Room. He becomes completely unreasonable, becoming angry at the slightest misbehaviour of the other students. He also has an complete hate-on for the Brotherhood. A more in-character Scott is mostly paired with Jean, but also with Lance or Kurt if it is a slash fic.

Dating
This is pretty much what all fanfics (unless they are general or action) tend to resolve around. Character A wants to date character B, who dates who, where to go, what to do etc..

Eyes
These organs gain a huge importance in fandom. Not only are they described in lavish details, come in every colour imaginable, but they’re also able to telegraph any feelings a character might have. Mary Sues naturally have the most special eyes of them all: they shine, they twinkle and sparkle, they have slits for pupils, they glow when a Sue uses her power, they change colour according to her mood and many more things.

Fanon
Stuff that is not based on the show, but rather what the many fans believe. Examples: Pietro is heterosexual; Pietro and Wanda are Jewish, because Magneto is; Todd is Jewish because of his name (and nose); Rogue’s real name is Marie; etc..

Gambit a.k.a. Remy LeBeau
Gambit is a member of Magneto’s Acolytes. Originally from New Orleans he joined Mags for reasons unknown to us. His adoptive father Jean-Luc wanted him to use his mutant powers for stealing. Said powers enable him to kinetically charge any item, which makes said item go boom.
Canon!Remy is a thief and kind of a manipulative bastard (he abducted Rogue and used her to free Jean-Luc). But he isn’t totally evil. After Magneto got beaten by Apocalypse, he seems to have gone on on his own. He is wearing his trademark trench coat most of the time. His hair is brown, cut in a rather unfashionable bowl cut and his eyes are black with red irises.
Fanon!Remy is pretty much Remy from the comics/old cartoon. He speaks in an accent, in third person and has a different hair cut. Of course, he’s also an X-Men, mostly because he loves Rogue or Mary Sue so much. If he’s still an Acolyte, Mary Sue/Rogue will either join them or pull of the star-crossed lovers routine. He also often suddenly becomes a high school student. As mentioned above Gambit is hardly paired with anyone that isn’t Mary Sue or Rogue.

Gary Stu a.k.a. Marty Sue
Gary Stus are the male counterpart of the Mary Sue. They are more powerful than anyone, wear cool clothes (probably including a trench coat and sunglasses), have some kind of cool weapon and are good at Martial Arts. Basically they rip off Neo from the Matrix. They are so cool that all the female characters fall head over heels in love/lust with them. Thankfully there aren’t many of them in the fandom since most fanfic authors are female.

Hair
Another part of the body that Mary Sues tend to go wild with. Sue hair is always perfect, it never tangles even when it’s so long that it reaches the ground. It’s never greasy or falls out of place. It also comes in a all colours of the rainbow, naturally or dyed. Often it’s multi-coloured, like bangs of a different colour than the rest or stripes.

Jean Grey
Jean, together with Scott, was one of the first X-Men to join the institute and is already part of the team in episode one. She still has both her parents and a sister. While Jean is a straight A student , she is also part of the soccer team of Bayville High. If a new mutant is discovered it’s mostly her that makes the first contact (see Kitty and Fred). Jean has two powers, telekinesis and telepathy.
Canon!Jean is a nice, smart girl that most people like. She is athletic, responsible, reliable and someone the younger student can look up too. She is not exempt from a little jealousy here and there when it comes to Scott though. Her hair is long and red, her eyes are green and she is rather tall for a girl.
Fanon!Jean is a bitch. She is a manipulative, evil, gossiping, back-stabbing slut and all around ho-bag. Her mayor goal seems to stay the queen bee of Bayville High and the institute. Mary Sues and Rogue threaten her popularity thus making her jealous and hateful towards them, since she knows how inferior she is to their awesomeness. The only time Jean is shown as nice, is in Jean/Scott fics. Scott is also the only one she is paired with for the most part.
