WHOOSH!

this week has gone by sooooo fast! every day mike and i have been either buying props, buying supplies, building props, putting up posters, rehearsing, getting more props... and all the while trying to enjoy the city. which by the way is difficult if you have to pay 18 freaking dollars to park in a parking ramp for an hour and 15 minutes. we went to see the sears tower on monday, and it was awesome. (will post pictures) the unawesome part obviously that it cost so much to do it. but it was a lot of fun and we went on a gorgeous day so we could see for miles! tuesday was a long day, but we got 2 for 1 ice cream sundaes at dunkin donuts. wednesday we did a full day of postering. mike drove and when we got to a theatre i would hop out, he would either turn on the flashers of drive around the block and i would hop back in as soon as i could, we went all around town... and ate at this little place called, um.... i dont remember, but i had a v. good cheeseburger.
thrusday we finished putting everything together. every prop, every light cue, and ran the show through twice. mike developed terrible pain in his shoulder area. of all days to get that!

friday mike sent me to put quarters in the meter. it was raining pretty heavily. i went to the van, put in quarters and then walked back. i came back and mike asked me if i had brought back the number of the guy who took photos of the show. i had forgotten. so back outside into the rain... while inside the car, searching for the number (which turned out, was in my purse) a car stopped in the middle of the lane and put its flashers on. people were pissed off and honking their horns like crazy. i, however was concerned. "why did this person stop in their lane and put on their flashers?" so when i got out of the van, walking past i took a look inside, and she rolled down her window and yelled something to me along the lines of "you got somethin to say? what you lookin at?" blah blah blah... sometimes i dont understand this city at all.
we then went to get the prop shotgun on the south side of town at a place called ZAP prop rentals. it was out in the middle of somewhere and as we approached it this god awful smell filled the car. mike said it smelled like cat food, and i thought it was more like chef boyardee beef ravioli...
once inside we got lost in all the awesomeness. this warehouse was filled to the top with everything you could imagine inside. juke boxes, old doctor equipment, rows and rows of tables, chairs, mannequins, lightbulbs, books of matches, stuffed animals, bookshelves towering with books so old they looked as if they would fall apart if you touched them. on our way out we asked the girl helping us if she knew what that smell was. she said for one that it varies from day to day, and instead of smelling a lovely twinky-filling plant we had the pleasure of smelling the vegetarian meat spicing plant. theres an oxymoron.

that night, we opened to a house of 20. pretty good if you ask me. terra said she had been in shows that have opened with less than 5. almost everyone in the audience was foreign. which is fine, but foreigners dont laugh out loud v. much. which is frustrating when your only positive feedback comes from that, the laughter. so we finished the show and everyone was a little down because we thought they didnt like it. but at the reception it turned out to be quite the contrary. they all LOVED it! every single person there! a couple even took a posters and postcards to put up at work.
lela and zigmundt set up the reception in this beautiful room downstairs, ill take a picture of it sooner or later. and everyone in the audience stayed and chatted and told us we were amazing. which was so good to hear, we really thought they'd hated it.
most people were gone by 10ish... the cast stuck around and proceeded to drink. heavily. :) rebecca, who is friends with jimmy (our choreographer) stuck around with me, mike, and miguel until, i dont even remember what time we went to sleep. it was v. v. late though. we all danced around downstairs to frank sinatra and finished off whatever wine, beer, and captain morgan we had left. best cast party by popular vote.
woke up this morning surprisingly early. in general, i wake up better after a night of drinking. which is weird.... so mike is still in bed (its past noon now) perhaps ill wake him up.
no, ill let him sleep. we said we have no responsibilities today. and if you have no responsibilities, you have nothing to wake up for. so you may as well sleep.
ive been having a wonderful time here. and now that mikes up we've decided on todays game plan. to wander aimlessly through the city and only make time to eat dunch (meal between dinner and lunch)
