Did a little bit of poster work and went to rehersal, we came up with a few new ideas for the show, which i am sorry to say are super top secret, and that i cannot share with anyone.
We decided to come home early (wed night) and were out of chicago by 9:30 pm. Picked up sydney at grandma marys and had a nice chat till almost 11. got back into GB by 1:15-ish and had a nice, relaxing thrusday.
THE RETURN TO CHICAGO!
We came in around 12:45 on saturday. 45 minutes late for rehearsal. Whoops. But, to be fair, it was not our fault. Chicago is tricky and very traffic heavy.
Rehearsal went very well, we worked on the opening scene, and created the whole new sexual harassment bit. Im sad to announce Petey the Pervert Fairy did not make the cut. Actually, the whole “are you a pervert?” scene didnt make it. Youll have to come down and see it to know the cheesy 80's video awesomeness.
After rehearsal mike and i were kicked out of rooms, because the bathrooms in the theatre wernt running very well (not my fault) so they needed our “room's” bathroom for their show. We exited the building and went downtown. We took the subway(!) from the blue line to the red line to downtown michigan ave. where mike proceeded to string me along behind him lost and walking nowhere near where we wanted to be. Which was the looking glass theatre.
We went to see “looking glass alice” an adaptation of Lewis carrolls famed books (alice in wonderland and through the looking glass and what alice found there)mike and i were seated 21 seats apart in the same row. Youd think they could just shove everyone down one, but noooooo.
the show wasnt just any ordinary show, there were ropes and hoops for alice to swing, climb on, and get so close to the ceiling you thought she would crack her head open. She met humpty dumpty at one point, and he was sitting atop a very tall ladder. on the floor they opened up two large doors, so right away you know whats coming. at the end of the scene she steps on an egg and the ladder falls straight to the ground. for that moment you are so wrapped up in the story that you forget about the hole in the floor and bring your hand up as your breath catches in your chest. It was probably the most amazing show ive ever seen. (besides ours of course ;)
after the show we looked for a place to drink. A basement bar called us in with simple minds “dont you forget abou me” how could we resist?! Well, it was easy after my glass of “riesling” *cough chardonnay, and mikes teeny tiny rum and coke that cost to much to mention. There was (according to mike) a 2-way mirror from the mens bathroom to the bar itself. Kinda weird, but also v. cool.
An irish pub is where we ended up. And i had a delightful pint and then a ½ pint of harp lager. Mike had 2. or 3? we stayed there until 1:30-ish and took the “L” (thats slang in chicago for 'elevated' train) back to the theatre. Where after ringing the doorbell 5 times, we had to call the zig-meister to let us in. i found a chess board in our room and was “quickly” taught how to play. I know all the pieces basic moves. Go ahead, quiz me if you dont believe it!
This morning we woke up fairly early for rehearsal at 11. thought of a BRILLIANT way to tie the show together since we had a crisis with Anders taking the GIGANTIC desk offstage for his smoke break.
Again, i am not at liberty to divulge that information. I cant very well let the revolution down.
Clark street is a street that we visited after we were kicked out of our rooms again (for the same reason as previously stated) we put up a few posters and ate some classy chicago dogs. Mike was taking me to see T.M.L.M.T.B.G.B. (which is an abbreviation for: too much light makes the baby go blind) they do a show where there are 30 short plays/pieces hanging on a string, the audience has a menu with the titles of all 30 pieces and they are allowed to shout out the number of the play they would like to see.
The first was their own version of improv, wich i found to be not v. funny because i noticed all the things they did wrong. Blocking, telling the audience their suggestions were crap...My suggestion was the least crap of them all apparently. But that was the point of the piece; that they dont do improv. Which is funny. The best one they did was a 2-parter. Titled “literal music video #374” and “literal music video #048” the first was the song “total eclipse of the heart”(which is my song by the way) and jay was on stage faced away from the audience. Every time the song said “turn around” he turned around. Skeptical at first, but then enjoying it too much. later on the second one was “dont turn around” by ace of base. And i dont think i have to explain what happened. It was pretty much the funniest thing i saw all week.
We headed back to the theatre because dave was on his way. Once he arrived we went looking for food. Initially we passed up pizza metro because it was too crowded. Ended up at Macs where the waitress didnt serve mike any beer cause he didnt have his ID with him. Dave and i shared a large pitcher of honkers ale. :)
macs was too pricy so we headed back to pizza metro. Ordered a large pizza and dave got us some pinot noir. The waitress took our picture below the sign of our favorite resturant. Which i will post along with all the other pictures today on my facebook, because livejournal wont do it for love or money.
hope all is well with everyone :) happy labor day!
