It arrived! (the old tube oscillator)

lots of cool salvage on the inside... 2 variable caps, 1 dual variable cap, a jumble of old resistors and capacitors. The sub-boards that the resistors are mounted on have a lot of promise as re-usable somethings. Looks like it could take a little bit more work than I anticipated to re-use the panel, but it should be worth the effort. I’ll swap out the circular two pin power jack on the front panel with a Neutric or Switchcraft with a ¼ inch panel jack for audio output (should be just about the same panel size) and replace the UHF jack with a shiny new one, though I don’t know what I’ll do with an ungrounded one pin connector. I suppose I could bore it out and put the LDR inset in the UHF jack… but then I would want the LED connector to be close by, probably where the 2pin jack currently is, which would require finding a new location for a 1/4inch output. Hrm…
The main frequency knob to frequency (duh)
The three position rotary range switch replaces the old SPDT range switch (guess I’ll just have to modify the circuit to add another range setting)
The On-Off switch will replace the switch on the old volume pot, and the volume will go to the amplitude pot.
That leaves me with one extra SPDT switch… If it were a DPTD I could put together an internal LED/LDR module and set it to switch between that and the external led. I suppose I could wire it to disable the external LED… but I’m still not certain where to mount the external LED or the LDR… and there’s that funny ‘button’ that looks like it may have been a release to allow the unit to be removed from whatever it was housed in.

And the case… it’s huge. I was thinking of just cutting it down to size fabricating a simple back/top out of the remains. But I’m also thinking that replacing the whole thing with a simple angled wood enclosure might be better
