So, I just beat the Baldur's Gate Trilogy, aka the Saga of the Bhaalspawn. The series is the definition of epic. I like taking a look back at stories that end in magnificent displays of power and ability, and see how they start. It really brings things into perspective.
I mean, in this game, it starts simply enough: with the death of your foster father by a mysterious armored figure. And so it begins, you, a simple figure on a long, empty road, with nothing but a cloistered past behind you and a simple goal of finding some contacts of your foster father. From there it continues to a tale of political intrigue, a lust for power, a quest for divinity, an attempt on your very soul, the saving of an entire race, and the eventual receiving of godly power. If you choose, it ends with ascension into the pantheon of gods as a being of divine essence.
And it all started with a long, empty road.
