Wednesday 23:36

I biked to work today. (Not unusual, except that) It was raining, both ways. Rain was forecast most of the day, with an afternoon gap and an evening gap. I thought I was catching a gap when I left, but it started raining, and rained all the way in. But it wasn't cold, and I was feeling stubborn, and curious. And the bike needed to be washed. So I got to work soaking wet. I was able to wring water out of some of my clothes when I changed at the office.

And nothing had dried out when it was time to come home, so it really didn't matter that it was still raining and I was going to get wet again. We should have beautiful weather the rest of the week.

I found the bike gloves that had vanished when I returned from Pennsic. They were on the coat rack on the back of the kitchen door. I've been wearing a new pair since Pennsic, but I doubt they'll be dry tomorrow.

The National Hurricane Center is forecasting Tropical-Storm-Force winds from Irma reaching us Monday morning. (Irma's the one that's about to hammer Florida a week after Harvey flooded Houston and eastern Texas.

Thursday 00:05

Wow - the National Cathedral is going to remove two stained-glass windows that honor confederate generals. No decision yet on what's going to replace them, but they hope the removed windows can be used for teaching. (My high school is associated with the Cathedral; our sister school is named the National Cathedral School.)

Renaming Jefferson Davis Highway: The City of Alexandria (Virginia)'s Ad Hoc Advisory Group is soliciting potential new names for a portion of the U.S. Route 1 road.

Thursday 00:52

It has stopped raining. I'd thought about edging the sidewalk after the next good rain. That would be now.

Thursday 02:08

I have edged our sidewalks (but I haven't picked up the wet sod). This was the ideal time to do it. After a day of rain the ground is soft. And it's about 60°F/15.6°C now, so it's a comfortable temperature for moderate exertion. And very little traffic this late, people to gawk and wonder what someone's doing out.

There's less sidewalk to edge now. Most of the sidewalk in front of the house has been widened all the way to to the curb, so there's no grass swath between the sidewalk and the curb - two faces to edge.

Thursday 12:59

I just posted Jul. 25th, 2013 Pennsic XLII - Thursday, Peace Week). I don't often manage to post on weekdays. And the Pennsic days are large, complex entries, with tables and photos.

I'm wondering whether I should go to NC this weekend to try to do things to secure Mom's house. We don't know exactly where Irma's going to go. One can hope that if it goes that far inland it will lose most of its strength. But hurricanes can do significant damage inland.

Friday 21:28

Latest NHC projections show Irma going into central (rather than eastern) Tennessee, and not (now) looking like anything serious for central North Carolina. While I am still long overdue for checking on the house, there's nothing making it more urgent at the moment.

Saturday 03:25

I don't seem to have my lists of class choices for Pennsic XLII (2013) after Thursday, August 1. I did find a PDF of the guidebook, so the class lists are there, but I'd be guessing at which ones I would have wanted to take. (My guesses would be pretty good though.) There will be classes mentioned in my daily commentaries, but those were clearly incomplete for the days where I do have the choice lists.

Going through old entries I'm seeing another reference to a cat getting sick while I'm gone to Pennsic. Could they miss me that much? Was anniemal doing something to them while I was away? (Zahara/Camille died while I was at Pennsic this year. ☹)

Saturday 21:37

There are so many things I do/experience that I completely forget. Like helping someone at Pennsic with vision problems (Ely) learn the KWC music; posting Pennsic XLII (2013) has reminded me of it. Maybe that was something that contributed to my Award of Arms? Because I would do all the singing anyway, and it's a pain to lug a lot of instruments, but I like to play them too. Leading sectional rehearsals is not an imposition; it's well within my abilities. But working with Ely was time away from other things at Pennsic - not that I minded doing it. It was for the good of the group, and the extra time on the music was good for my learning too. But mostly it was bringing one more person into the excitement and intense satisfaction that can come from the Known World Choir.

Saturday 22:59

Posted DW/LJ entries for 2013/Jul/26-29, Pennsic XLII - Fri/Sat, Peace Week and Sun/Mon War Week. (Still need to take a photo of 2013's glass fusing to add to the website and the 2013/07/29 posting.) These 4 postings were a lot of work. Can I finish Pennsic 42 this weekend?

Sunday 14:31

I'm adding 2 photos that I took this morning to the website. Somehow I never got a photo of the fused glass piece from Pennsic XLII (2013).

Sunday 23:59

Posted DW/LJ entries for 2013/Jul/30-31, Pennsic XLII - Tue/Wed War Week. Added the glass-fusing photo for 2013/07/29. I didn't catch the class schedules for most of War week, and pulling them from the Pilgrim's Guide PDF was tedious. Some hours I don't know which class I attended. So Pennsic 42 is not getting finished this weekend. War Thursday is another busy day; Fri/Sat will be simpler.

Monday 13:03

Posted DW/LJ entry for 2013/Aug/01, Pennsic XLII Thursday War Week. This was the last day with classes (and a table with photos), so most of the rest of 2013 should be easier.

Tuesday 03:12

Posted DW/LJ entries for 2013/Aug/02-04 - end of Pennsic, trip home, and some work chaos.
