The Republicans say no one should be required to buy health insurance.
We require people to pay income tax. How is this any different? Everyone needs protection from invasion, roads to get around, and health. Have you met anyone who never needed medical care at some time? And even those who have never been sick or injured would be affected by others who are, especially if they didn't have health care - sick kids going to school with your kids, sick co-workers at your workplace, sick people processing and packaging your food, and lots of people running up exorbitant medical bills that they will never be able to pay because they let their conditions get serious when they couldn't afford preventive care.
People who don't drive still benefit from roads; how else do the stores get stocked?
People who don't have kids still benefit from other people's kids getting educated.
And people who aren't sick (yet) benefit from keeping everyone else well.
