Rob Ford

Rob Ford, the mayor of Toronto, who has publicly apologized for druken partying and who has allegedly been recorded on video smoking crack cocaine, has finally made it into the national news (NPR) in the U.S. He is refusing to resign, and recall elections are not an option, so the only way to remove him from office is to convict him of a crime and sentence him to prison, at which point he will be unable to perform the duties of his office. He hasn't been charged with anything yet.

Tuesday 23:00

After 6 months of denials, Rob Ford admits "Yes, I have smoked crack cocaine but ... am I an addict? No. Have I tried it? Probably in one of my drunken stupors, probably approximately about a year ago,"**

I hadn't seen his picture until tonight, and he's not at all what I expected. He's just another old*, fat, white guy. Why did people think he was going to clean things up? With his drug problems (routine alcoholic stupors, for starters) he's not even an old, fat, competent white guy.
With all this talk of drugs and drunken partying I was expecting someone younger and leaner.

*Yes, I'm older than he is, but you wouldn't think that from looking at the two of us.

**[Sept 2017: I just took another look at the photo in that "Yes, I have smoked crack" link, and his necktie is US football-team emblems. What kind of politician does that? (The "Rob Ford" kind, duh.)]
