out of web space

I noticed in the middle of last week that my MythTV Contents page was incomplete. After poking around I determined that I must be out of space. Existing files could be overwritten, but could not increase in size. I eventually figured out that FTP will do a recursive directory listing, so I got a list of all my files and sizes, and added them up with an awk script. I uploaded a lot of photos a while back, and I've used 1GB. Many of those uploaded photos are empty, and that's probably when nothing else was able to grow. 1GB is the web space limit. I think I had the impression that the limit was 10GB, but that turns out to be the email limit. I would much rather have a 1GB limit on my mailbox and 10GB for my web space.

Comcast gives us 7 email accounts, each of which has its own 1GB web space (and 10GB email space). But splitting a web site over separate accounts is a different management issue.

I need to identify photos to delete, so the normal updating of my website works again.
