I biked to work today, and when I got home the big pine tree was gone. There were some very large rocks on its stump, and there was still an open trench behind the driveway's retaining wall. I guess
anniemal had already decided to get rid of the tree, and the discussions over the weekend were to get my buy-in (or accedence). We're going to have to find something else to plant across that end of the yard, maybe some kind of hedge.
Anniemal suggested a sheet wall, a typical Pennsic camp boundary. I don't know where she gets these ideas. It would really not be appropriate in our neighborhood. And it's another one of those things she thinks she'd do, but she wouldn't keep it up and it would be looking ratty and tattered before long. Potentially, it could be something artful, but I just don't see her pulling that off.
I was looking for some photos of sheet walls (since my photo hosting sites died) and I came across
this blog about Casa Bardicci. There's earlier entries leading up to this, but it shows one of the most extreme of the extremes some people go to at Pennsic.
OK, the 7th and 8th pictures
here show sheet walls.
