Korean War

I saw a program tonight about the Korean War. It was (of course) the next major conflict after WW-II, after the debut of the atom bomb. With China and potentially Russia championing North Korea, and the U.S., U.K., Canada, New Zeland, and Australia (and Turkey) backing South Korea, it had the potential to become WW-III. The prospect of the Soviets joining in led Truman to declare that the U.S./United Nations forces would use the atom bomb, and Truman would let General MacArthur make the decision. In response, Mac quickly designated 26 targets in North Korea and China. And the bombs actually got as far as the US base on Okinawa. The President of South Korea was urging us to bomb Moscow.

It's a wonder humanity's still alive.

(No wonder they made movies like this....)
