bad error message
I hate incorrect error messages:cp: /Volumes/JET/2496csection.MP3: No space left on device
I've just figured out that my MP3 player has a problem with directory size. I have a lot of short podcast files. The MP3 player was 24% full, but I kept getting the above message when I tried to copy more onto it. There were only 174 files in the directory, which is no kind of special (power-of-2) number. But I thought "Maybe if I split the files up into subdirectories," et voila, I can fill the thing up.
My first MP3 player navigated with the directory structure, which was nice because I could arrange things however I liked. This one navigates by the Artist or Album fields of the files' ID tags. And that requires scanning all the files to build these lists every time I turn it on - even to use the radio function. (Yes, that takes a while.) But it was cheap, and its basic functionality meets my needs.
